Like It Was Made For My Hand
My second Spyderco, and I've been waiting a while for this one. As on my other example, fit and finish are excellent, though in this case there was a hole on the left-side pocket clip mount that was not drilled all the way through the micarta scale. Not a big deal, just had to poke out the thin piece of micarta that was left, and mounted the clip as normal (I am left-handed). Lighter than one might expect from a folder this size. Ergonomics on the Manix 2 XL are incredible in standard, pinch, in the finger choil, and reverse grip. Fits my hand perfectly. The lock is a little awkward to manipulate due to the butt shape of the handle; the butt wants to slip out of your palm against the pressure of the spring, but this can be managed. I like the generous jimping on both the blade and the scales, adding a tactile sense and improved grippiness overall. The brown canvas micarta is more white on my example that the product images here suggest, but it does the job and will darken with use. Plenty of aftermarket options for scales and ball cages out there if you're interested in modifying. My first CruWear blade. With M4 being one of my favorite blade steels, I expect CruWear will compare admirably. Impeccable factory edge. Overall, very happy with this purchase. At this point I have no reason to expect anything but a lifetime of service.
