Flting high

Just got this knife in the mail yesterday, a very quick delivery too, great service by KnifeCenter thank you. Quality is very good, always prefer a lock back, but now days knife makers are making excellent blade locks in other ways too. Picture does not do this fine knife justice. The Byrd is in my pocket and for now at least it has replaced all other folding knives I own.

Impressive, it's a nice knife.

I decided to buy a 'big' knife from Spyderco, to replace a small Old Timer I use as my constantly carried pocket knife. I know the Byrd line is made in China, but I saw many good reviews about the Byrd line. I'm glad I listened because the Cara Cara 2 quality is there. Now, I'm not a knife guy, but the fit and finish seem excellent to me. The blade opens smoothly and locks up tight with no wiggle at all. The G-10 handle material grips well, and the jimping in the finger choil and on the thumb ramp keeps your hand from slipping. The thick, flat ground, plain blade is very sharp out of the box. I was easily slicing paper into very thin strips, and that's sharp enough for me. Another nice feature is the ability to move the clip to 4 positions. If the knife needs deep cleaning it can be taken apart with Torx bits because the whole thing is screwed together, not riveted. I know this knife will get much use around the house, garage, and at work.

As good as I expected

I have not used this one extensively but as the steel is the same as in the Robin I am sure it will hold the edge quite well. I like the G-10 scales, the weight that suits the knife´s size and the finger groove for the index finger. The jimping could be a little sharper, it doesn´t lock the fingers. Mine also touches the liners when closing but that´s just on the unsharpened part of the blade. It is not at the price point of the Endura so I don´t expect it to be perfect but some of the Cara Cara´s features fit my needs better than the Endura. Besides I don´t feel too sorry when it wears during work.

Precio calidad inmejorable, afiladisima, ligera, ergonómica, apertura y clip para zurdos, la usompara abrir cajas, paquetes, cortar papel, por poner una pega, va algo dura al principio, y los bordes , estal algo afilagos, un poco de lija y abrir,cerrar y ya es la navaja perfecta, tengo su hermana con mediosierra, para cartones mas duros. La recomiendo

Great Knife

Not all the Byrd knives are awesome, but this one is. The finish is not as flawless as the Spyderco line, but for the price this is a great deal...kind of a poor man's Endura. I like it a lot.

Excellent innovation!

Hah! I'm so happy with this knife. Not only with its full flat grind blade but with its overall make over. The new clip looks neat with its Tenacious like 4 position choices. Its straight spine makes me feel like having an Endura G10. What I have here is a high value breed of Endura/Tenacious. I would be be stupid if I won't recommend this knife to everyone. Excellent job Byrd...I'm looking forward for the Byrd Cara Cara Emerson Wave... I'll be waiting.....

Buy This

This knife has all the features of an endura but with a G-10 handle. Very well made,sharp out of the box,and about a third of the price of the endura. It's much better than the 1st generation Cara Cara, which wasn't a bad knife.

Good larger EDC

This is a nice larger EDC. Rides comfortably in the pocket as it is thin. The materials are good for the price and the G10 feels much sturdier then the FRN versions (including the Meadowlark etc.). It did need some cleaning and easing of sharp edges, but overall a good buy.

a cheap ffg endura 4 in G10 imitation

nice EDC, viable as a weapon of opportunity if self defense would be a necessity. The material are nice, the mid quality G10 is nice, not slick nor too grippy. The ergonomics are excellent and the lock-up seem solid enough. The jimped choils are a welcomed feature. The only thing found lacking is the fit and finish. The grind of the releaf edge is a little un-even and one of the liner isn't flush with the lock bar at the blade pivot leaving some space in between on mine. So that been said you do get what you pay for, except for the designing cost that went in the spyderco Endura, while still having a sweet knife for the money.

It's comfortable and effect, a good knife for lighter tasks and food.

This is a good little knife, not too heavy, not too light--you know it's in your pocket but it's not burdensome, I don't think. It has a nice long blade, I found it best for food prep. I tried once to pick a piece of what I think was hardened drywall compound off the ground and when I stabbed into it at first, I curled the very tip of the knife, and then as I scraped the piece of the ground, the blade chipped a little bit--definitely not its intended use, but still be careful with this knife! It was very sharp, but the edge grind was uneven, in fact, the blade itself may have been skewed a little to one side (it was hard to tell). It worked fine for everything I used it for. I didn't know Spyderco was made in China, maybe not ideal but not the end of the world either--but, they tend to hide that in their pictures, sometimes the description will tell you, though.

i ad hi hope for this knife but for me smooth opening is 35 to 40% of the knife and ist getting better but i ad to open the knife 3 time and play wit a few thing quality control could be better but if you put somme work in it it will get better for the rest blade handle pocket clip is exelent just wish it would be more smooth out the box

I am a little dissapointed

I am a spyderco fan and i own many spyderco knives.I am used to and have come to expect the usual spyderco quality and fit and finish in anything with the spyderco name.Unfourunatly the byrd has none of it.The quality and fit an finish just are not there.I grant you that is a low price knife but so is the spyderco tenatous and it is 100 times the knife that the byrd is.I will always keep on buying spyderco but not the byrd series. The only reason i gave it a 3 is the price.

You get what you paid

After opening the package the first thing I noticed was te uneven grind. Didn't really effect the cutting performance but is kind of irritating. Also some of the jimping isn't cut all the way through. Besides those flaws the knife opens smoothly and locks up nicely. For 30 bucks I would reccomend it to anyone just getting into knives.

A few observations with my particular sample... When I look at the blade in the light, I can clearly see "waves" in the primary grind of the blade. When closed, the point of the blade ever so slightly sticks out of the handle.
