I love folding knives that include the Emerson Wave feature, and own several. I am guilty of babying my waved Spydercos that I carry because they weren't inexpensive and I agonize over things like nicks and scratches. I have no such concerns with this knife, which is meant to be a user. The blade is sharp out of the box and it opens well out of the pocket just like my other knives with the Emerson Wave feature. I like the flat grind and the lightweight construction. I don't miss having handle liners or a deep-carry pocket clip. The knife is comfortable in the hand in several different grips. Lockup is tight and without any wiggle or play. The blade is centered, even. Very pleased with this purchase. I kick myself for not giving Byrd knives a closer look sooner. They punch above their weight and are an excellent value. Some folks consider 8Cr13Mov a cheap compromise alloy, but it is equivalent to AUS-8 and while that was never a super steel, it definitely earned some respect in its day. I list it as the only "Con" in my review only because some folks consider it inferior to most contemporary knife steel alloys, but it is an acceptable compromise here, and the performance of the knife should not suffer under reasonable demands of the user. For fifty dollars, the Byrd Cara-Cara 2 with Emerson Wave feature does everything I need a folding knife to do and then some. It's a far cry from my original old-school Endura from the nineties, and less costly than my "nice" waved Spydies. I am not going to worry much about damaging it, and if it is lost, it wasn't a huge investment. Excellent service as always from Knife Center staff. Thanks, and keep up the great work! =)
