This is a quality knife and comes extremely sharp out of the box. I researched this knife extensively prior to purchase and couldn't be happier. Well made with absolutely no blade play, positive lock and opens easily with one hand. I use it daily at work mainly to open boxes and general light use. Fits great in front pocket with a strong clip. Solid feel and grip. Highly recommend!
The primary use for this knife will be personal defense by females. The knife's weight makes is very useful as it can be carried anywhere and any time.

As a user who has lost the productive use of half of my body due to a Hemorrhagic Stoke it is essential. The workmanship is beautiful and I order all products through the Internet and the knife is in use almost every day to open the boxes.
Skeletonized steel liners are just one of many great features that make this the best bargain around. I prefer the blade design on my Ka-Bar Dozier at the same price point but this Byrd is better everywhere else. Get both
I'm typically handling inventory and supplies for my office which means opening a lot of packages, cutting straps, and sometimes tearing down boxes. This is a great mix of light weight, nice blade geometry, and a grippy handle that makes it very easy for all of these tasks. Although I'm not tearing down tons of boxes, when I do need to, it goes through like butter. The only drawbacks I can point to is that opening it one handed requires a little bit of deliberation, and you can't really close it one handed, easily. So if you're needing to move faster wtih opening, closing, putting back your knife, you might want something that's a crossbar lock or button lock, or an easy deploy thumb stud or flick hole.

Very light, great for EDC
This is a great EDC knife when you want something light. It clips easily to a pocket, stays in place, and is easy to forget it's there. With a bit of practice, it's also easy to pull out and open with one hand. The FRN handle is good, almost as nice as G10.
These knives are OK at best. I will say that after about 25 open and close cycles the lock spring moved out of place. (making the knife useless) I took it apart a placed the spring back into the slot. Well...it happen again. Once again I took the knife apart. This time I reversed the spring. I had to do a little bit of modifying but not much. This indeed fixed my spring issue. Not sure why it do not come like this to begin with. Now the knife locks twice as hard and snaps back closed nice a firm...before it never did that. So yeah these knives are OK after you work out the kinks. I've had to tweak my other Byrd knives to get them to work well. Other than that a good working mans knife.
