It doesn't matter where it's made (Taiwan is actually great quality these days) because the materials are all top quality- US made S30V stainless and Ironwood handles. Also, the fit and finish are impeccable. This is a great deal! and a great knife. I live it.
A hollow grind is for slicing soft materials like fish or thin slices of meat. Definitely not made for outdoor woods work. You'll need a flat or Scandinavian grind.
It is ironic that they quote Pekka's famous line that not all knives are puukot because this knife that is supposed to be a reproduction of a puukko certainly is not one. There are a number of problems with the construction of the knife and sheath that make it not a puukko: 1. Puukot have what is a scandi grind either with or without a microbevel. This knife has a hollow grind. 2. Puukot handles are typically made of artic birch or burl native to Finland. This knife's handle is made of Arizona Ironwood. 3. The sheath is made in the design of a Scandinavian or English bushcraft knife, not a puukko, which have their sheaths sown up the back. 4. This is a nitpick, but the Spydiehole is completely useless. The Spydiehole is useful for the folders and certainly distinguishes their folders, but it has no business being on a fixed blade. 5. Puukot purists would be spitting fire over the knife having a stainless steel blade, regardless of the quality used. 6. While I commend knifecenter for marking down this knife (kudos to you), Spyderco must be out of their minds to be asking $350MSRP for this Taiwan made knife.
An otherwise fine take on a classic knife design ruined with a hole through the blade! I have the original Hackman Cutlery Puukko designed by Tapio Wirkkala, and a Cold Steel Sisu copy. Both are fine knives with no need for a hole through the blade. Spyderco - get over the signature hole where it serves no purpose! And once again - the price is a sin.
poor heat treating! The blade chipped very badly when I sharpened some pencil and, after resharpening, chipped again when I tried to cut some cardboard. Poooooor quality and outrageus price
