Even Better Than I Expected

Already own a Spyderco Ladybug in ZDP-189 and love it. Always regreted not getting the original Manbug with stainless liners, bolsters and G-10 scales. So when I saw this, I thought it was my chance to get a Spyderco Keychain knife with full stainless liners and a truly kick-a$$ blade steel. And it's even better than I expected. The stabilized Pakkawood scales are really classy looking and feel great in the hand. And the stainless liners add a bank vault like solidity to the knife that's just not there on the FRN-handled versions. Came a bit stiff -- in a good way -- but the action has smoothed out while retaining that ultra crisp and solid feel. It's a bit heavier than the FRN version, but it's a good weight. Well worth it. Had never used Hap 40 before but it's every bit as good as ZDP-189. Came scary sharp and cuts like a dream. Haven't had it long enough to comment on edge holding or re-sharpening, but I'm confident it'll be brilliant. If you're thinking about it, just get this knife. It's even nicer "in the metal" than either pictures or video can convey and the pride of ownership is through the roof.

Possibly the best value on KC?

I have wanted one of these for a while but never pulled the trigger. Boy, am I glad I did! The sharpest out of the box of any Spyderco I've owned so far. Blade has excellent finish and the lamination line was even on both sides. The wood hand has beautiful grain and the stainless liners add some much needed weight and strength. Looking forward to using this little guy!

A little gem

This is a beautiful little knife. The liners are a nice addition. If it was 1/3 bigger it would probably sell out in minutes. A Japanese spyderco w/ liners, wood scales, Hap 40 steel. If ur trying to choose between this iteration and the K390, I have both. I carry this one much more. I would give fit and finish a B+, the crown of the spine has some pitting and the inside edge of the liners are sharp, easy to knock down. I also had to loctite the pivot screw. Small issues. If ur looking for a small knife, pull the trigger, u won’t be disappointed. Also, factory edge is as sharp as a razor, a tip of the hat to u, spyderco.

Personal gift

I gift knives to people that I care about. Spyderco knives are one brand that I know I can give to someone and it will get used. This little knife went to my wife. She didn’t have an EDC until this Spyderco but it gets used all the time. It gives me joy to see a knife that I give to someone in their purse, pocket, or on their belt and being used.

Bought this for my boyfriend and he loves it. Great quality and looks really good in person. Also the small compact size is really convenient.

Wonderful little knife!

Got this because I'm kind of drawn to miniature mechanical things that actually work. I have many larger pocket knives, but few small ones, and this one caught my eye. The blade came very sharp, and it's too soon to review how it holds up, but it's a good rated steel so I'm sure it will be fine. The Spine was almost sharp enough to shave with, so I tamed the edges a bit with a medium stone from my Sharpmaker. Made it much nicer to handle. Lockup is really good. The Mahogany Pakkawood, wow! I guess I didn't realize that it was a wood based composite (until after I got it and researched a bit), but it looks AMAZING! Has a nice copper shimmer to it, yet looks like wood. Will be looking for more knives with this handle material in the future. Pricey for it's size? Maybe, but it takes just as much work to make a small knife as a larger one. Only savings is a bit of material, so I get it. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this knife one bit, if you're on the fence, buy it!

Pakkawood Handles look great, blade is razor sharp and the lock is so crisp. This will be a favorite carry for the nicer occasions and small edc tasks.

Beware of TSA at the airport if traveling

I had one from years ago. Just a great little knife I made into my key chain. I was traveling and TSA took it away from me when going through search/inspection.

Great little knife

Spyderco quality in a great little knife. Perfect for light tasks. Don’t think I’ll put it on a key ring, tho. It’s too pretty…I don’t wanna beat it up. I’ll keep it on the reloading bench and gaze at it admiringly.

What a beautiful blade

My ladybug in zdp189 gets used and abused everyday at work (I'm a mechanic) and I've grown to really enjoy the ergonomics. This version in the pakkawood has all of the ergos I enjoy but in a really well done elegant form. The pakkawood feels very nice in hand and the knife as a whole feels very solid, much more than the frn versions. Every one of these is going to be unique because its made from wood so that adds to the appeal. Mine has a darker stripe gmcoming down from the back lock which looks really nice on one side. The other side is very even and it just looks incredible. Highly recommended!

Lovely materials, handy size

The utility of a small knife shouldn't be overlooked, Spyderco clearly knows this as this is not even the smallest knife they make. This expression is particularly enjoyable. The Pakkawood handles are rich and warm and expertly fitted. I can't help it: I'm a sucker for a laminated blade. I'd heard a lot of talk about HAP40 being a super-steel but knew little about it. I actually own a Manix 2 in CPM REX 45 which is almost identical to HAP40 in composition (they are equivalent). It sharpens pretty easily, especially in a blade this small, and takes a screaming edge - as Tungsten bearing steels have a reputation to do. I bought it for the wood and the steel, and I find I really like the form factor and the quality of execution.

well made, great steel, pakkawood is a gamble

This knife is a really nice addition to the line-up of pakkawood exclusives. I always liked the Ladybug. This version is very robust with the steel liners while also staying extraordinarily lightweight. The steel is great, very sharp, and the ergos are great for a knife this small. It's expensive for what it is, but it is neat. The only downside with this exclusive is that with such a small knife, the wood is slick and I feel like it would be better and grippier with micarta. Unfortunately, with the variance of pakkawood and the laminated blades these are always a gamble because you could get an amazing sample or a less than amazing sample. With this current order, I didn't luck out. The lamination between the steels on the blade is very uneven on each side and kind of ugly, and my sample of pakkawood is basically dirty black with some off brown showing through on the sides. There is no wood grain, and it's the worst example of pakkawood I've seen in person.
