Great Little Knife

This is a great little knife. It came shaving sharp. I prefer this 2.5" blade to the 3" blade which I also have. I like the carbon steel blade. Quite a story on how this line of knives got started.

Plain and simple

This is not some heavy bladed tacti-cool knife. It is simple and elegant in its design and its slim blade excels at mundane everyday tasks like cutting open boxes, slicing salami, and peeling apples. It is built simply enough that it could be taken apart to clean (I have not tried this). Although it has been done online, this is not the do it all knife that you should baton with. There are bigger fixed blades and hatchets if you need to split wood in the field. Every expert on the internet has their pet view on blade materials and designs. All I will say is you will need to take care of this and any other knife. It will need cleaning and oiling. It will need sharpening. Some will say that this knife could have been finished better. I like its rough look. It adds to this knife's charm.

All-Around Performer

I also own the full-sized Peasant knife. The Mini is more pocket friendly. I EDC this knife, and I love it! There are two great features about this knife: the blade, and the simple design. The blade is made of L6 tool steel (carbon steel), and it takes a fine edge, is easy to sharpen on basic sharpeners, and has good retention. I love how it takes on a patina as I use it on fruit and vegetables. The 1.5mm blade stock is thin enough for the Mini to be an efficient slicer. It goes through cardboard as well as apples. I've used it several times to prepare dinner, and it worked well. Don't worry about rust; clean and dry the blade after use and it will be fine. This friction folder is very simple. There are 2 Chicago screws, 2 handle scales, a stop pin, and the blade. Simplicity = strength. You'd have to tear the stop pin out of the handle scales for this knife to fail. There is no blade centering issue, no weak springs, no ball bearings to lose. It's a snap to tighten the screws if things get loose. This knife can be opened and closed with one hand, easily. If you grip the knife properly, it cannot accidentally close on you, because you are holding the tang down. Also, don't worry about accidental opening in your pocket. There is strong retention when you tighten the rear screw. Incidentally, the exposed tang can be used as a mini pry bar, or to open bottle tops using the lever technique. From the factory, the blade touches the rear screw when you close it, but the brass does not really dull the blade. I fixed this by installing a larger stop pin using 5/32" brass rod from the hardware store. This knife is worth the extra effort. For me, it's as close to a perfect EDC knife as I've come across.

A gem from New Zealand...

This is a cool little knife. I actually bought it because of the price point; I was curious how a thirteen dollar knife would perform. I've used my Svord Peasant knife for just about every mundane task available, and it has held up perfectly. Some of the reviewers have panned the Peasant because it looks rough; and it is (though I think that's part of the charm). The knife performs well; is easy to sharpen to a razor edge; has a solid plastic body; and can be tightened or loosened to the users preference. All in all, its a solid pocket knife & definitely worth the money.

Don't use it for real!

This knife is actually dangerous. The handle twists and flexes along with the blade in any cutting operation. It is a pretty knife for opening envelopes and such. I bough it for working in the orchard. I have it in a drawer or tool box somewhere around here where it won't be used.
