Von Tempsky Hawk... Rough And Tough!
So, I was looking around for a tomahawk/hatchet that I could call a collector piece and still use as a knockaround tool that I wouldn't fuss over it taking a nick of two along the way. Something pretty much NOT like my RMJ Tactical or Winkler tomahawks, which in all likelihood will never get off the porch... I have owned a Svord Von Tempsky Ned Kelly blade for a couple of years, knocked it around pretty good, and it still looks as ugly as the day I received it from knife center. I use ugly in a complimentary sense. You have to own a von Tempsky of some sort to appreciate my statement. Anyway, when I saw a von Tempsky hawk come up on knife center, I bought one right away. Nothing pretty about it. It is built to do what axes were are meant to do. Great for around camp, or any where a tomahawk is used. I think the edge on the hawk is sharper than what came on the Ned Kelly. I don't get the so called "convex" edge on the von Tempsky pieces, and sure don't like trying to sharpen them. That's why I only gave it 4 stars. But, we work with it...or around it, as the case may be. The head cover is very basic, but it does the job, and besides, I didn't buy this axe for the sheath. Anyway, good, solid weighty piece of steel with riveted handle scales on the full tang. The coloring in the steel almost looks like color casehardening? A simple, rough and ready tool that's made to work.
