The best

I have been collecting knives for 35 years and have made several of my own. When I received my order of this knife from knifecenter it became my favorite old school (carbon steel / wood handled) blade I have ever owned. A real treat! Excellent materials, design and execution.

the ultimate bush knife

A great knife over all, beautiful in design, it's large but still has the ability to do finer tasks, I have used it for a while now, using it mainly on wood, it's a very robust knife but can be a bit lacking on very fine tasks like intricate carving.

Von Tempsky Ranger

This is a heavily-built and beautiful knife. I like wooden grips, and these are a dark, straight grained hardwood that are well-fitted and smooth. The blade came very sharp, and is beautifully colored. My use for it will be around my farm (I put it to use the other day to cut through a wild blackberry patch I wanted to pass through) and will use it for hunting. The sheath is well made and of very thick leather, with a restraining snap around the knife's grip. This is an excellent knife, substantial enough for chopping chores but agile enough for skinning game.

better put it in your will!

I had the forest bowie for about a year and loved it but I needed money and had to sell it off, I immediately regretted it and I promised my self when I could I would get another. When I was looking at purchasing another forest bowie I figured I would just take a quick look at this and got to thinking the forest bowie is a monster it's not very fun to carry on your belt all day and while it is an excellent chopper it is not the best for even what I would consider medium knife tasks, it's large guard gets in the way quite often as well. Any ways I became more and more intrigued with the smaller version until I decided I would order it just to see, and boy am I glad I did it is the perfect size to put on your belt and go for a walk or out hiking and with a sweatshirt or coat you would have to look for it to notice it. But it is still not a small knife, I had no problem chopping a couple saplings for a shelter frame and it is way better at fine work than its big brother, I would say it is comparible to a Becker bk 2 as far as chopping quite and a bit better as far as fine work (thinner blade, around .19 - .20 of an inch). It also has the famous svord L6 steel which I have used for a couple years in my peasant knife and have loved it. There was a couple issues though, one is the tang is slightly higher than the scales but that is simply because it is winter and come summer they will swell up and I will seal it, not a big issue to me, just part of traditional wood handles. Another issue is more personal preference and that is the retaining strap around the handle I wish it was a diagnal strap like on the forest bowie but I can live with the sheath as it is and eventually I may mod it. Overall if you don't mind paying a little extra for a real knife that will out live you and has a sweet traditional look to it then I highly recommend the Von Tempsky Ranger bowie.

Tough bit of kit

This knife is class. It’s small enough to carry but big and heavy enough to be useful. I use it mainly for butchery and splitting kindling. You can beat it into a log no worries. I’m pretty good at sharpening but the blade is so thick going to the point I find the top 30mm almost impossible to hone. Compared to a 2.2mm thick Svord don’t be fooled, this knife is no where near as easy to sharpen. The steel is awesome though and it holds an edge even after a load of abuse that you should never do to a knife. The sheath is the icing on the cake. The quality is unbelievable and is easy to get the knife in and out fast. If you need a new sheath knife this won’t disappoint.

Excellent Hunting Knife

I bought this knife from KnifeCenter with good service even I lived outside US. The knife steel quality is good, good at heat treatment and easy to sharpen.I also have the longer version and it's very, very good for me to use to split the wood. But the sheath is not as good as the knife.Anyway, I can make a sheath for myself.

Average Knife

This is an average 6 inch fixed blade knife. The sheath is poor quality - the first thing I did was order a custom sheath. A good deal at $90 no more

good knife but terrible sheath

The knife is beautiful, it's very strong and solid full tang. Came sharp (not razor) and very greasy, finish is good. Handle is okay. well banalced but heavy for the size, however it was expected. Big cons: the sheath is really not up to the knife's quality: it's a MAJOR disappointment, the push button of the sheath was broken on the first unclipping (normal use), I tried to fix it in vain, so I got a knife without sheath... + finish of sheath not good. Hence one point down in the notation.
