Sturdy and comfortable, but heavy.

I've carried this in various purses for almost 3 years now, and I have to say I'm EXTREMELY happy with it :) I have fortunately not had to use it on a human being yet, but I have tested it fairly extensively (though not abusively). I've struck sturdy materials fairly hard repeatedly and opened/closed it hundreds of times at least, and it has held up fabulously! I know one reviewer says their baton bent after some light use, but that has not been my experience at all. Perhaps faulty parts are to blame? The grip feels good and stays in your hand well, there is also plenty of room for even large handed individuals to grip it with both hands if needed, though I find it is easy enough to use with only one. It is also compact enough when colapsed to fit in the average largish purse or bag, or pretty much any standard tote or backpack. Do bear in mind, this is a 26" baton, it's not light, if you're a skinny short chick it's probably not for you, but if you're strong enough to wield it, it's quite formidable.

more reach

Made by another company but worthy of the S & W label in my opinion. I am confident that S & W agrees. This baton is good everyday quality. It is hard, it opens and "locks" until you boink it back. It extends range of defense beyond hand and arm but is still no match to a gun. So why spend triple digits on a baton?

The Big Guy!

I have several batons in my collection and I refer to this one as the "Big Guy". Depending upon where I'm going I'll either carry it in my car, truck or motorcycle. Knowing that I have this handy adds a higher level of security and peace of mind. The feel, grip and weight are all comfortable. While some are not real happy with the sheath? I think it is ok. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for maximum protection by use of a button.

Very good

The product is very sturdy. If you’ve seen the youtube videos on it, it closes just the way they close it in the video and the baton itself takes no damage from it. Mine isn’t even scratched from closing it. The baton feels very good in my hand, and I am especially satisfied with the one day shipping option that I chose for it

Better than ASP.

After I returned the ASP Talon push button , 21 inches, for a terrible rattling and play when open , I got few of SW batons , what a big difference : rock solid when open , no any play or rattling , well made overall , has some minor play when closed ( dont mind for me) .I saved money and got better quality . I do not have any problem closing those SW baton by hitting the concrete to do that , it is very ok for me . If you are law enforcement , you may need the aluminum push button to close type of baton ,to carry it every day ( different story) . Overall those SW are super great for the price and quality . Thank you .

Quality Collapsible Baton

The product is used as a possible defense item in case of animals that might be dangerous while walking a path that goes through some wooded areas. It is a replacement for a former baton that was given to a family member for the same use as noted above. I feel the quality and function is really good and am pleased with the item and Seller.

Quality baton

Bought the baton for possible use when walking the lab early in the morning. The paths we take are surrounded by lots of shrubs and the dog sometimes looks back like something is following us, so I carry a gun just in case. We have Javelina, coyotes and bobcats where we live and I have seen all within 15 yards of our house. I plan on carrying the baton instead and if something unwanted comes around I will definitely be using this baton. I feel safer already now that I have this.

Over built

Don't be put off by the low price they are built like a tank , I believe Taylor makes them , I bought the 16" and 26" for things that might go bump in the nite. As I'm out late walking my German Shepard. I own also Asp and mononock batons and I don't believe I'm at a disadvantage using S&W batons with the exception that different finishes other than black aren't available

Excellent Baton

This collapsable/extendable metal baton was exactly what I wanted. It appears to be a quality product (which I researched thoroughly before buying) and it gives me the length (26") to allow some distance between me and an attacker (whether human or critter). I mainly bought it to protect my dog and myself from encounters on walks in the country. So far I've had to use it only once (a snarling, growling dog) and when the dog heading toward us saw and heard me snap it into its full length, it stopped and decided it was just out there to smell the flowers rather than encounter us. After extending, it's easy to collapse back into it's carrying length, which is about 9 inches--just smack it on a hard surface tip-first. The handle is excellent too, providing a firm grip with its nubbiness yet not bothering your hands with too much texturing. I recommend it unreservedly. And to make matters better, it cost much less than some of the other brands that I reviewed.

Feeling safer

I am feeling much safer now that I have this baton. A violent sex offender moved in a few houses down from me and getting my son to and from his bus had become very stressful. The spring action is very easy to use and expands with a flick of the wrist. The only downside is it is a bit difficult to get it to retract. I have recommended this product to the other bus moms who feel less than comfortable with this degenerate roaming around.

A good size baton that could save your life some day

I may never use this baton but its nice to know that its with me if I need it. When used properly it deploys out of handle, and the rod inside does return pretty easily when you strike it on the ground. Its heat treated which makes it stronger and its a good length to have. Not a toy to play with.

Awesomen piece of equipment

This baton meets every expectation one could have in regards to a friction lock baton. Very sturdy and locks with a hard snappin sound. I changed the handle to a foam grip that I had from a previous baton which I bent while using it on duty. The one draw back is I wish this model came with a foam grip handle option.

It's OK

I bought this for someone else, so I did not have enough experience with it. However after expanding and swing it around a few time, it bend a little bit. It's not the sections that are bent . They are made from good quality steel, but the joins of the sections seems not straight. Hopefully the guy who received does not notice it! :~D
