I own a whole lot of sharpening stones, even some Japanese Water stones. And this beats them all hands down for general everyday sharpening. It is a bit on the rough side when you first unbox it, making it seem much coarser a grit than it actually is.But after a few uses, the diamond side is about the grit of a blue DMT stone, and the ceramic side is a little finer than the red DMT but not as fine as the Green DMT. I prefer this stone over all the because it is almost zero maintenance and is zero mess to use. No oil or water. And once it gets clogged with steel bits, just use a wet toothbrush to clean it out.
