The Scandinavian Beauty!

Oops, I've snapped at another Fällkniven knife and this is my third one (I also own V1L and MB)! As always, I've had mine ordered, engraved on the blade and shipped from Boden, Sweden, so this is the authentic product and not a Chinese knockoff. What has really drawn me into this big knife is its look and the design is very typical of the Scandinavian blade, yet the birth place of this beauty is Seki City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan, approx. 3~4 hour drive from Tokyo where I live. I've always believed that the knife of this size should be made of carbon steel and for sometime despised this blade because of that, but as I've done some serious research on the blade material, I've learned that it is as good and tough as carbon steel blade and what's more, it's corrosion resistant and thus requires less maintenance after use. Quite reminiscent of the sword of antiquity (the Roman Gladius or Viking/Crusader sword), it's almost like a miniature sword with substantial blade and spine thickness of 7mm (!) and on top of that, insanely razor-sharp edge that it slices the papers like butter! Out of vast knowledge and experience living outdoor, they've wisely chosen the ox hide leather for handle material, a material more ductile than wood, bone or even Micarta, and it acquires a nice brownish patina after years of use.The craftsmanship is absolutely amazing since this is a Japanese-made cutlery designed in Sweden, and it definitely has the quality of well-crafted custom knives. Although designed and built to be treated rough in the woods, I'm a little reluctant to do so because of its beauty and it's a sheer pleasure to look at. I will indulge in this Scandinavian Beauty for a little while and see how it will serve me.

NL1 Thor Bowie

Great price, fast shipping. The convex grind and the tri-laminate steel make this a special knife. The design is awesome and the weight is perfect. This makes the knife a great tool for, not only survival but, camping and hunting as well. The overall quality is exceptional. This is my second Fallkniven purchased from KnifeCenter and I am very satisfied.

Indescribably awesome

It frustrates me when I find a knife made of the highest quality materials, made by a company renown for great and functional blades, and find very little information or reviews about it, especially one with such a high price tag! But being a knife enthusiast I simply couldn't resist the allure of this beautiful and mighty blade. Out of all the knives I've purchased this one gets the award for knocking my socks off. It is big, beautiful, and razor sharp out of the box. During the honeymoon phase and initial testing of this knife I knew that my measure for greatness in knives had a new benchmark. Even though it looks and feels like some elven made hobbit sword from the lord of the rings, I am an outdoorsman and I had no plans of putting this knife in a display and admiring it from afar. Taking it into the woods I forced myself to put it to work, and work it did. I'm familiar with any assortment of blades from small knives to machetes to hatchets and axes, but what I was really looking for (and found) was a knife that I could do everything with. It simply does it all from cutting down and limbing a tree to batoning to feathersticking. Although I'm sure it could, I refuse to strike a firesteel with it because how hard is it to keep a small striker that weighs nothing attached to you steel with paracord? On top of all the practical things it does, its strength and fortitude supply no small amount of confidence that you can tackle any challenge. While defending yourself against wild animals with a knife is probably never a good idea, holding this knife in my hand gives me a sense of a fighting chance. Fallkniven has a good reputation which they more than live up to with this blade. As long as this review is already I don't want to get into more details, suffice it to say if you are a knife person like me, and on the fence about getting this knife, I highly doubt you'll be anything but happy with it.

The beauty, the beast and.....

NL1 Thor has always been the pinnacle of my heart's desire and finally, I've got it today! Since I wanted to engrave my favorite verse from the Holy Bible, I've had the knife ordered and shipped from Boden, Sweden, and it took only 4 days (!) to get here unmolested by customs. The "Beauty" was the first impression as I unboxed the knife and as I played with it a little, the "beast" was the second impression. Don't let her beautiful appearance fool you! Although the spine of the blade is thick (7mm!) and the knife is blade-heavy that it has all the dispositions of hatchet or machete, it's insanely sharp and it cuts papers like butter. I've never had a knife this beautiful, this well-built, this big and this sharp (In terms of sharp edge, my Volcano Knife may be better)! Quite reminiscent of the Roman Gladius or Viking/Crusader sword, the look of this blade is appealing to me and perhaps, that's what had drawn me into this beauty. My knife came with a thick black, heavy-duty leather sheath with a Viking helmet logo, instead of "Fällkniven" logo, and the smell of leather is just irresistible. I will treat this beauty with respect and care and make sure that it will outlive me to see my children's children as an heirloom.

excellent workmanship

They don't make alot of knives like this anymore this will be a knife that I will be passing on to my Son. I plan to buy all 5 of the Northern Lights Fallkniven range before they are discontinued or the price increases, as with everything these days. I must say when you hold one of these knives you wish you could go back 100 years and be an explorer or some trapper way up in the mountains some where... Anyway we can only dream... Knife centre were excellent, customer service and a detailed postage and accurate arrival dates.. I will be ordering all my knives through them....

Oops, I did it again!

Oops, this is my 2nd Thor! I have a real weakness for big knives and when it comes to the Northern Lights series, the craftsmanship is absolutely flawless. Once again, I've had my beauty shipped from Fällkniven in Boden with the engraving work on the blade and despite the COVID-19 pandemic, I was able to pick it up at post office in just 7 days! It may be considered a luxury to own 2 of these, but the life is too short not to indulge and I'll never be sorry I acquired the best. Now what would I do with these beauties? They are my bona fide iron mistresses. Lol!

Bowie Knife Thor

This knife is of the highest quality and makes most bowie knives look like tinker-toys in comparison. I would advise that any low ratings are completely not based in reality. Scandinavian design, superior quality, superb looks, unparalleled strength, convex edge with VG10, leather sheath & built by highly specialized craftsmen. I would recommend this knife to anyone seeking a bowie knife, large chopper or survival knife. It certainly deserves the namesake, Thor!

best quality ALL OVER THE WORLD considering even custom makers. Very similar to Cold Steel Trailmaster in form and function but better in overall quality, fit and finish, handle, steel and the sheat is fantastic. Scary sharp is an understatement for this knife

Bought this around a year ago, been in the safe pretty much since new. Somehow threads came loose on the sheath. Plunge lines on the blade don't match either. Overall very nice, some quality issues for the price though. Came extremely sharp.

Thor Bowie

The things I really liked about this product was that it felt good in the hand, the leather grip wasn't too slippery and felt relatively stable. Now for the bad, the sheath is not quality leather but a rather cheap leather that has been painted. I wanted to keep it because it had the cool viking logo but I had to let it go. When I received the knife it had a few imperfections such as indentations on the spine of the knife and the point was actually chipped! Definitely not worth the price tag but for $100 bucks I would buy it again.
