Great tool
I bought this for traveling with my daughter and grandkids. The van is always packed and I wanted an escape tool to save the others in case of a disaster. I hope I never need to use it but it will be there if I do.

Great knife
Although the knife is a little bulky, it appears to be well made and very durable. It is a little bulky when carried in a front pant pocket but certainly is a " must have" in any emergency situation.

I really can't complain about anything specific. The knife holds an edge well enough through abuse. The belt clip gives good retention without being hard to remove. The overall weight gives it some decent heft to aid when you need to use the glass breaker tip.

Smith & Wesson first Response Rescue Knife
I purchased this knife for my wife to keep in her car to cut the seatbelt(and security) if needed. I was pleased with the quality and weight. The test we did to cut a mock seatbeltwas esy for her to complete. I am lefthanded and she is righthanded and the thumb assist knob to open the main blade works well for both of us also. I would recommend this knife to husbands for their wife car and for their vehicles.

Good Value Console Knife
I bought this as a gift for my mother-in-law to keep in her car in case of emergency. The weight is really nice; it makes you feel like you're actually holding something that can get you out of a tough situation. The circular thumb stud on the spine of the blade makes it very easy to open and the liner lock is strong. The serrations have an effective pattern to them, and the rest of the blade is sharp right out of the box. The price ($19) is unbeatable. Handle fits the hand well.

This is a very well made knife and well designed as are all the Smith & Wesson knives. I have and love the Smith & Wesson Cutting Horse knives, and have owned many for years. The Cutting Horse is the perfect every day carry knife, and this is a great rescue knife. I wish it was a assisted opening knife, rather than a flipper. Pull out both blades on the Cutting Horse and you have a mean fighting knife. I have bought this knife in the plain straight blade, and the combo blade. I prefer the plain straight blade, which I carry on my belt all the time. I bought this combo blade to carry in my van. Since I carry a Cutting Horse which has two blades one a plain blade, and one a saw blade, I don't need a combo blade knife. I want a full blade for cutting, and this knife with the plain blade gives me a good full cutting blade. This knife complements my Cutting Horse in rescue situations, and I know I can depend on Smith & Wesson. It is a reasonable price and is every bit as good as the knives selling for 3 to 4 times as much. I have used Smith & Wesson knives for decades and they have never let me down. They sharpen easily, and stay sharp. I have never had one break on me, but I did have had an expensive Spyderco Police brake on me.

Very good knife
It's a very good knife, sturdy, haves it's weight so you gonna feel it if you loose it... thanks to the nickel colour or finnish it's easy to see on tall grass; it's very sharp booth the knife's cutting edge as the razor to cut seat belts and things like that, opens very easy and fast and have a very good feeling on the hand. It's perfect for have on the car in case of emergency, if you need something strong and sharp that's easy to use and open... this is your knife; it's great. Even as camping knife works wonders, im very happy with it; it's a very good outdoors and emergency knife as urban knife, it's very very good.

For the price, this knife is off the charts. If you compare the steel to something that costs 10x more, sure it's not going to be as good. It's a good design with extra features (seatbelt cutter, glass breaker, rope cutting serration). If you are concerned about wear and tear, buy two.

Good knife for the money
I use this knife everyday and it has preformed well. I find however that the blade does not hold an edge.The blade loosened up pretty fast so for a low end open assist it works great. All in all this is a good knife for the price and you should be satisfied

I have a First Production Run from the Smith & Wesson Shooting Center in Springfield. Overall a very good knife... if you don't look at the extras. Well balanced, opens quickly either with thumb disk or inertial-ly. Holds an edge well, but need sharpening out of the box. As for the extras: I have not been able to cut a seat belt, cord or strap with the integral cutter; fabric binds in groove. Finally, the window breaker is not going to break anything but your wrist; 10 full force strikes against a window without success.

Good knife until thumb break falls off
I am a police officer and carried this knife daily but with the banging around of the knife in my pocket th thumb screw fell off. This does not work for me due to needing to open the knife one handed.

looks can be deceiving
Within a couple of weeks normal use (splitting kindling, prying, opening cans, pruning, and yes, cutting bread) I found the weak spot on this knife. There is a nylon bushing between the blade and its axle. With the kind of use above, the bushing deforms and the blade becomes laterally sloppy. So much so that if you press the blade sideways with a folding force at the point, the locking mechanism fails and the blade closes. I didn't cut myself yet but I like a lock that is 100%, not 90%.
