Opinion of a French soldier
Just to know, it's the latest French army knife. (old ones are the BIVOUAC and the BAROUDEUR from the same manufacturer) Being still in service for more than 16 years, I have and have been able to experience the three models (BIVOUAC / BAROUDEUR and CAC). - The BIVOUAC is very good for camping/picnic especially for the price. On the other hand, it is not at all designed for harder tasks. I advise against woodcrafting. - The BAROUDEUR is more solid than the BIVOUAC, it will allow you to woodcraft a little bit. BUT for double the price, if the use is limited to foodprep, you might as well take the BIVOUAC. If you need a sturdier knife, take directly the CAC. The cutlery isn't very practical either, a little too big. I also had the hollow blade version, what can I say... useless, you can't spread anything properly... - The CAC is a very good knife by current standards, the Nitrox steel is very good for an outdoor knife, does not rust, keeps its edge quite well and can be dressed quite easily. For cons, the strap cutter is not super effective (maybe because of the width of the handle) and the pointed glass breaker is often unpleasant when looking for the knife in the pocket, but it settles quickly with a little file stroke. (the latest version of the military CAC has a rounded glass breaker). There is no can opener, but the Nitrox blade steel will allow you to open it without damaging the blade. (already tested with mine) Of course the edge will not like it, but 2 minutes with a diamond stone and here we go again. =
