New for 2024! Slip Joint "Steelcraft" Series from Begg Knives

The new Slip Joint Steelcraft Series from Begg Knives offers a fantastic range of designs that make it hard to pick just one. I ultimately chose the hawkbill (Model BG041) for its unique blade shape, but the entire series is appealing with its variety of handles, bolsters, and shields. One standout feature in the hawkbill version is the choil in the handle, which adds to the overall comfort and satisfaction of using the knife. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the knife came with a case, a microfiber cloth, stickers, and a pamphlet (not depicted in the photos). The handle thickness feels just right, and the blade is solid, with no vertical play and perfectly centered. I almost chose the slightly larger "reverse tanto" version (Model BG036), which has a lanyard hole and a longer nail nick on both sides of the blade, making it more lefty-friendly. It's surprising that these knives weren't featured on the Thursday New Knives of the Week. Perhaps manufacturers need to pay for that exposure? Overall, I am extremely happy with this purchase. The Slip Joint Steelcraft Series is a high-quality addition for any knife collection and a great companion for my Steelcraft Diamici which I love!

Awesome blade shape

The blade shape is awesome on this knife. The fit and finish is really good. The shield sits perfectly in the scales & no proud pins. The handle is very smooth & the bolster and everything line up perfectly. There is slight gapping in the backspring but nothing major. Very acceptable. The blade is made of a decent steel. I do wish the back spring was a bit tighter though. It's not super weak but a strong back spring is important for a slipjoint. The knife is a bit smaller than expected but still comfortable in the hand for a smaller knife. The spot for your thumb on the back of the blade is very comfortable. I do think it's slightly overpriced for what it is. I bought it because of the esthetics it's very different & is also my first hawkbill. Also I'd never heard of the brand before and wanted to try it. Overall it's a good modern slipjoint knife. But I do think a 35-40 price better suits it.
