great literal edc / backup
I edc this thing for 2 years or so now. I only take it off to shower and sometimes to sleep. Even next to the belt buckle, on the side of my drawing hand, it just won't ever stick out like some other fixed blades with scout carry belt loops tend to do. Other ones (that are a little longer) I usually have to belt buckle carry, to raise the tip side to make the handle side angle snug against my body - but that doesn't work for every size and type. This FDX 66 I can just carry next to the belt buckle and I often forget I got it on me as back up and hard use knife (until I need it), to save goodness on the better edges. I carried it through summers and winters, and it's just never noticeable, especially with how flat it snugs against my body. You can also nicely strap it into a Molle system you might have somewhere by the way, very light and nice for that. The 1095 is just lovable. It's so nice and easy to fix small edge damages from harder and more dirtier use on the fly, and it has the advantage of a carbon steel being both tough and hard while you can still sharpen it comparatively effortlessly. It being my edc / backup / hard use small fixed I have had no issues with corrosion whatsoever with it. I love carbon steel for an edc, because the only disadvantage is basically that it can corrode and get rusty, and that's basically mitigated for me by carrying it every day; so I got a good eye on it too. The coating holds up very well, really digging it; I especially like the whole color scheme on it. The sheath, the lanyard, the loops, the brass snap buttons that are painted black and slowly reveal the brass color of the buttons and making that blend in with the rest of the color scheme. It's just pretty to me. I have also used the lanyard to male a loop for my pinks and my ring finger, which comes in really handy for me. For that I have just pulled the two long ends through the small round hole on the opposite side for that, adjusted the size of the loop so it fits me well and then secured the ends by pulling them through back and forth the wider slots.Somehow the length of the lanyard is perfect for that, so it stayed on and I just kinda weaved in the loop. For a TOPS it's kinda nice and slim, really, like 3 mm or so. I like the intriguing combination edge too, it just works well for me. Lots of different ways to cut with it; tip, flat, second tip, second flat, poke-cutting, it has it all! I hope I wasn't putting anyone off with this moderate wall of text here, but I hope my experience helps at least one persona at some point in time. Oh, and I also love how I can pull it out with my pinky and ring finger, via the above mentioned loop, and then just wrist flicking it into my hand if I am not grabbing it already. That way you can put it on your drawing hand back side, but upside down, so the edge is upwards in the sheath and the tip pointing backwards. Then you can really just put your pinky and your ring finger through the loop, pull it out forwards and then just fling it into your palm. Somehow that's very satisfying, but I still prefer the regular next to the belt buckle carry - because that makes me look less cool and is less noticeable. The sheath is being made very well by the way, not just the knife. The belt loops are also to my liking and they are holding up very well indeed. Another pro is that the snap buttons can only be opened and closed in one direction, that also secures it from randomly getting popped open in case you do would get caught on something there. But it doesn't lay on thick at all and so far nothing popped open or got caught anywhere, as it should be. Okay, that's it now, I can really recommend this thing if you are into any of the things I elaborated on a bit. I think it's a shame that basically nobody seems to use it, review it, or write a review about it. So please excuse me for releasing that built up energy in this kind of long review of my own. And I swear to goodness, I got no cons with it at all! Except that it's probably not for everyone; but it's great for me, so another pro! o7
