An Excellent Knife, Handle should experienced firsthand
I am a student of survival, life being my teacher. I have survived about a half dozen life threatening situations. From being trapped in a burning subway car in to surviving the Christmas blizzard in Buffalo NY when there was no power, no heat and no 911 service. I have received professional survival training during my life, from instructors. I own around 200 knives. I do agree with Becker that the best knife Bar none is then Marine combat knife. I am a fan of 1099, but own knives with powdered steel from Crucible to Carpenter. My point is that I want you to know who is recommending this knife to you and why. My largest concern with TOPS has been understanding their handle geometry (I have small hands and an index finger injury), I had always guessed that some of this 1” handle was “operator swagger.” I have the tracker as well and have learned that the very large handle does in fact prove an Axe like grip. All this said, my sincere recommendation is to buy this knife and to work with it. It fits in the “one knife”category for me. It chops 8 out of 10 for knives of this length. I built a one man shelter in the rain in 30 minutes (my baseline for survival knives). Yet it maintains its martial ability incredibly well; stabbing and slashing tests, as well as speed of movement. Finally the thick handle provided both shock protection and remarkable retention even when wet. I hope this review was helpful.
