A Superb Knife!

Before buying this knife, I didn't have any experience with TOPS Knives. I bought it mainly as a camp knife and CQD knife while out in the bush due to the blade profile. I'm so glad I did! The weight is perfect -- just enough heft to know it's there, but not too much it'll tire you out. The handle is extremely comfortable, and the tail secures the blade nicely in my hand. It's sharp, it's sturdy, and it's well balanced. An all around excellent knife! That said, if I had one nit to pick, it'd be about the sheath. After I bought this knife, I bought a couple more from TOPS, and all their sheaths are...a little homespun. They don't need to be injection-molded to be good, but the TOPS sheaths I have aren't very versatile, and only offer one carry position. But other than that, this knife is well worth the price.

Not just a pretty face

I thought about buying this knife for a long time but was on the fence because something so cool to look at wouldn’t be practical. Well now that I bought one I have to say it’s just as practical as it is cool to look at. I use it as a camp and brush tool. It’s sharp out of the box and holds an edge well. I can’t speak about sharpening it because I haven’t had to yet but I have maintained it and ran it across a strap in the process. The big belly is slicy and really allows a long smooth slicing action. The recurved flatter section behind the belly is great for chopping and drawing…stripping bark for example is really easy with this blade. I love the handle scales, shape, length and feel in the hand. Quality, fit and finish is excellent. The only negative is the sheath. It works but I’m not a fan of the material or the way it hangs the knife off your hip. It sits the knife way to high for my liking and it’s not easy to modify. I’d love to find or have a leather sheath made for it some day.
