V-42 Col Banks Stiletto

Feels good in hand, is easily maneuverable and the design is for real business and not for goofing off. This dagger/stiletto is time proven and continues as a weapon of choice for Special Operators.

I purchased the v42 as a gift.

My friend's Father served as a Commando in the Joint Canadian and US outfit who wore the red arrowhead and carried a V42 during WW2. No one knew this until his death several years ago and his uniforms, service records were discovered. He had the v42 sheath but no knife which is the reason for the purchase.

i am a green beret.served from 1968-74. and a life member of the special forces association chapter 1-18.col. banks chapter. i could not think of a more fitting tribute to him.

One Wicked Knife

I like stiletto blades and I am a Vietnam Vet so I jumped at the chance to get one of these knives for my collection. It is not of the highest quality and I did not expect it to be because of the price but it is still a great buy. My youngest son did 2 tours in Iraq so I got him one too.

This is a piece of history. When you look at this in person you feel like you are part of a geat tradition. Just to owne it, is an honor to our WWII vets. It is very well made no complaints. And shap, yea cut myself. Oops. ,

Faithful Reproduction of the Original

I bought this repro of the V-42 because I always wanted one after seeing and handling an original one that belonged to my Great Uncle. The only cosmetic differences that stand out to me was that the stacked leather handle was a bit rough, with some of the leather protruding slightly, forming raised rings. I fixed that minor problem by doing some light work on it with my drum sander. I also applied a little Neat's Foot Oil to the handle because the leather was very dry. The "Skull Crusher" end cap was very loose and I was concerned that if I tried to really tighten it down that I might damage the end cap. When I did tighten the cap more than finger tight I could still remove the cap barehanded. Rather than really torque the cap down, I applied a little LocTite and it is now very secure and I don't have to worry about the possibility of losing it. The factory edge is not as sharp as I would have liked. After about 15 minutes on my tri-stone I had an edge that you could shave with. I did have to be very careful when I sharpened it so that I wouldn't mar the finish or the etchings. Overall, this is an excellent knife. I would have no problem using this as a "working" knife if necessary.

Every thing as promised.

I purchased the V-42 Col. Aaron Bank Limited Edition Stiletto for my small US Army knifew collection. The V-42 came and was exactley as advertised including the sheath. The V-42 feels great in my hand and was very sharp. The engraving was crisp and easy to read. Since it's part of a collection, I'm not going to use it as a throwing knive, although it does balance well. Overall this knife is a ten.

Good self defense weapon

This is a well made defensive weapon. I keep it under the covers while in bed (handicapped) to deal with intruders who might attack me. I have no doubt but that this stiletto is far superior to any ordinary knife for this purpose. It has a nice sheath for carrying while out and about. And the price is right.

I just received my stiletto and really liked the look. Nicely finished. The unit is light weight and feels really good in my hands. I am a big guy and it still fits nice.

Good enough!

If you are aware that this is just a display model, you'll be okay. If you're looking for a real combat knife, look at the Boker version. This knife is just commemorative. It is made in China, the "tang" is just a screw holding the pieces together, and the handle is wooden, not leather. The pommel is hollow. The grind on mine was off-center, and it lacked the thumb grooves on the reverse of the blade. The sheath is actually leather, but has metal pieces that would scratch the blade were the knife actually inserted, so I threw it in a drawer. The one I received was loose when I got it, which is common with screw-together types, and when I took it apart to tighten it up, the washer and bolt concealed by the pommel were rusted. But hey, they're hidden. Fit and finish were cheap overall. But then again, the knife was cheap! That being said, the etching is actually in the metal, not printed on, and the knife looks cool. Definitely meant for display, not for use. I use mine as a letter opener, which it is quite good at. Four stars based on it is what it is. Not checking pros and cons below, because I don't think there would be any real pros, but I would recommend it as a display piece. Just know what you're buying. Don't buy a commemorative display knife expecting a hard-working tool.

V-42 Stilleto

I use the knife on display as well as carry for use. The balance is great, exactly where you want it, so it doesn't wear your wrist out. For a fighting knife, I see why this was a favorite during WWII. I will have no problem trusting my life to this knifes ability, it feels like an extension to my hand. I'm a black belt, with weapon training, and I can usually judge a knifes dependability. One thing I would change, would be the scabbard. Seems most of the money went into the knife. It wasn't as sharp as I thought it should be, but that was easily remedied.

Great Present

Used as the center of a shadowbox given to individuals leaving an office at the Pentagon that supports Special Operations. Although a replica - it has a special meaning for the individuals. I've been making this box for over 10 years now in support of this one office and they absolutely love it. For what I'm using the knife for the sheath is unnecessary - would like to see a model available without it.

United Cutlery V-42 Stiletto

This piece will be kept as a collection item ,but is ready to be put to work if needed! Both edges are sharp and it's weighted well for the hand. The grip is leather and will need maintaining just like USMC fighting knives. The embossing on the blade precludes it from being much of a user piece but it does look nice! The sheath is rather poorly made, more of an afterthought but after all it a knife for show rather than carry.

Good old replica

I bought it just to have a "new" piece of history, the knife it's well made, sheath looks pretty good, I'm just keeping the knife in my collection. The service was super fast, the knife arrived earlier than expected time.

you get what you pay for

I'm not going to bash this knife for not being a combat capable weapon. Its designed after an iconic military knife and thats about it. I think for around $30.00 it looks great on my desk and makes a cool letter opener.

Very satisfied with appearance of knife. However, leather wrap is loose and rattles against hilt. Sheath did not fit knife and I threw it away. This was a bargain purchase, but I did expect better quality control.

United Misses Big Time with their v42 "reproduction".

This is yet another "cheap" reproduction from United of what really is one of the most famous fighting knives of all time. Made in China, of course, and it's not "expensive", but I would have expected better quality. The leather wrapped handle is loose and even rotates carelessly in use. Too bad, I wouldn't buy it again!

Another Cheap Reproduction of a Great Historical Dagger

Manufacture quality is not what the V42 deserves. Handle was loose and guard fit poorly. Should have used better leather!

Only as decoration object useable

After unpacking the knife i knew that THIS knife is only for decoration and not to use it :-( Sharpness ...what´s that? Quality of steel -> poor. Not a good buy from outside the US cause include shipment and TAX it was too expensive for the quality....

The item is a poor replica of the Case model I carried with MACVSOG in Vietnam. I still have the Case, and was looking for a copy, this isn't it!
