Excellent cane.

I have been very happy with the quality of this cane. It is strong and durable. I wish it had a little big wider crook as you cannot capture around neck unless it is tiny but the point would cause some serious come hither if you hooked them and gave a tug.

Great Cane and Defensive Item!

As a disabled person with walking difficulties, it was hard to find an effective item that worked well as a primary walking aid and a self defense tool second. This item fit the bill exactly! The material, polypropylene, it tough. REAL tough! It holds my weight without complaint and after a month of carrying it nearly every day has yet to even show a scratch! There is a minor bit of flex when putting my 200 + lbs. on it, yet I have seen wooden cranes flew more with less weight put on them. Unlike wood canes, this one is resistant against rain, snow, mud, etc. with warping or cracking, a big plus. The weight may be a bit more then a wooden cane or an aluminum one, but that is a benefit in my book, since that extra mass will come in handy when this device may be called upon to fight off an attacker. Also, using it has also kept my hand and arm strength up. The shaft of the cane has two nicely roughened areas for gripping, a well though out feature. The curved head has a set of longitudinal grooves (as seen in the photo) that will help in either scratching an opponent or aiding in a restraint hold. The very tip of the head tapers into a nice four-sided point that could cause some damage if used to disarm a bad guy. I have also used this feature in helping me retrieve my car keys and other items when I have dropped them, using it as a hook to keep me from having to bend over. Height adjustment was quick and easy for me, having the right tools ( a vise, file and hacksaw) at hand. If you don't think you are up to it, I am sure most medical supply companies would be happy to cut it down for you. I also wrapped a small strip of 1" wide 3M white reflective tape (available on line or at most auto parts stores) on the bottom of the shaft above the non-slip cap for low light situations. It is visible for very long distances and provides a nice measure of safety. For the asking price, this is an amazing item. I am sure if i even did have to use it to defend myself, it would do me proud.

Great for all seasons

I purchased this cane for its all weather durability and its resistance to abuse. I was not disappointed. Made of nylon reinforced polymer, it is quite rigid when supporting my 220 pound weight and fitted with a removable pick I bought separately, it remains useful even in icy winter conditions. It misses the mark as a defensive tool however in the construction of its crook handle which is too narrow to use for hooking arms or legs and so "pointy" at the end as likely to draw unwanted attention from the Canadian police. I have blunted mine for it to appear less dangerous. Even so, it remains an effective tool for warding off angry dogs or other urban predators.

I have a decent collection of canes from another company who uses polypropylene. I like each one for different reasons. This one is better than I expected. It has become my edc cane since I got it out of the box I like it so much I am going to get one for my brother as well. Thank you Knife Center.

A little too heavy

I bought 2, I cut off the hook as it looks too much of a weapon. I don't want to draw attention even I use it for self defense. It's a little heavy for single swinging with fast strike and fast recovery. I actually drilled a 5" deep and 3/8" hole into the tip of the cane to reduce a little weight. Don't think at 18oz after all the trimming is light, if you swing it like the escrima stick, it gets heavy. The reason people swing those escrima sticks so fast is because they are only about 6 to 7oz, unless you are super strong, it's hard to swing an 18oz stick fast. It would be ideal to trim it down to about 14 to 15oz so you still have the weight for stopping power but light enough to swing fast. I practice swinging with both hands like katana, that, works really well.

Good cane

This is a nice sturdy cane. I am 6ft 1in and the length works well. I also cut the pointed area of the hook off as the hook is narrow for defense purposes and I wanted a “Cane” without any visible defense modifications. As a retired L.E.O., I believe this cane could be called upon in various situations and will preform well.

I must admit that I like it more then I expected. I use canes and have 15 or 20 canes I rotate around depending on how I feel and none are cheap walmart canes. I have expensive custom ebony canes , canemasters, a robaina raven( which is nice)and each one of the 3 cold steel city sticks as well as their poly blackthorn and poly training staff and I actually like the poly on this united cutlery better... Hard to explain but the cold steel poly seems softer tho that is just a thought I have and no basis to back it up since they are all a similar poly, but the cold steel blackthorn thats much thicker seems to have more flex considering its so thick.. I cut mine united cane to the 36 inch mark and it weighs 1lb 6.5 ounces with an ACE hardwear rubber tip. The cane is 23.5mm thick and a 7/8th inch cane tip fits ( the one inch would be too big) so keep that in mind. Im not a big fan of hook canes but they are so convienent and so innocent looking they come in handy at times. When I fly around on travels I often take hook canes and usually take my Robaina Raven which is 1 inch diameter or my Canemasters but I think this one will go with me next trip since I like the sleeker, thin diameter for my style of dress...I took a coldsteel city stick to Spain but it is too formal looking and I rarely use the blackthorn since it doesnt fit my fashion very well so this will bridge that gap. The thinner 7/8 th inch shaft looks better with my dressy casual style while the crook keeps it funtional looking.. Though they are great, I think the Canemasters and robaina raven just seem too medical at 1 inch diameter (canemasters are just over 1 inch actually)and being that Im only 42 I am still a bit vain... I have no martial arts background but did 8 yrs in the Infantry and did some time as a Btn bayonet instructor so I would use that technique rather then hooking anything on purpose in a fight.. For those who invision using the hook just know it is narrow and is only 3& 3/4 inches across and wont really go around my 16 1/2 inch shirt size neck..the point is nicely made and tho not as sharp as the robaina raven it would work for its purpose. The grip stippling(?) just under the hook also has some very shallow cuts on one side of the shaft(same concept as canemasters) but they are very small and shallow and honestly only barely improve grip. So dont expect canemasters style grooves. But then again it keeps the cane even more innocent looking..down at the foot of the cane there is another section of stippling and same little groove for grip but again it only helps a bit. The horn has some shallow grooves on the edge of the curve for no apparent reason or purpose but it kinda gives it a styled profile so i really like it...In all honesty if you understand what you get with this cane it is nice.. As an overall view of it I must admit I like it more then I thought I would. After having the coldsteel poly blackthorn I really wasnt impressed with poly canes but for whatever reason this cane just seems a bit more stiff..take into account I am 6ft 230lbs and have a prosthetic leg so at times I really do lean hard on canes if Im in pain so an average person would see very little flex in either cane.

The angle of the crook is too rounded and very uncomfortable to walk with as my hand naturally wanted to slide down the cane off the crook. The handle is too thin and causes the hand to cramp as there's not enough width to hold. The plastic foot is useless and needs replacing with a rubber ferrule. The hook is too closed to be used to hook a limb in a defence situation. Not fit for either walking with or using for defense. All in all, the design of the crook is the big problem. I am going to try to bend mine in to a better shape but I suspect it will end up being thrown away.
