Excellent training tools!
I have been studying and teaching Edged Weapons courses of some sort for about 15 years now. And the tools available have either been too flimsy or too hard and with sharp corners. The virtual blade system applied to the Sharkee open folder solves all those problems and more. The folder its self is made of solid polymer and all the edges are well rounded so as to lessen training cuts and scrapes. The marking system is great as it allows you to use a cheap and easily obtained product, sidewalk chalk, which is available in many colors to differentuate between cuts from different opponents. I only have two of the open folder Sharkee/ virtual marking system knives at the moment but after the last class I taught, I plan on buying more. The open folder is also a good size for training, as most edged weapon encounters will involve full length fixed blades over 4".

cool training blade
When I trained in Filipino martial arts, we used thick and heavy aluminum training blades modeled after fixed blades. Problem was, we all carried folding knives daily, not fixed blades. This would have been the perfect solution! If only I'd have discovered these a few years back! This replicates the light weight and size of many folding knives. It's simply Sharkee's newer folder trainer, with VirtualBlade's felt strip affixed to the edge, all around where the "blade" would be. You can even mark the top blade spine if you want to train "double edged" knives. The chalk stick works well, it can be kind of messy, but this is a very cool way to see what works while training disarms, stick and knife etc. you name it. I only wish I would have ordered a couple pairs instead of a single knife!
