The Real Deal

A real knock-about pocket knife with all the basic tools. Solid and handsome. Sounds pretty generic until you feel how dense this thing is. And appreciate the classic embodiment of "less is more". The blade is bigger than the plastic grip SAK's main blades. The punch is a spike, ok. The bottle opener/big flat head screwdriver tool is a heavy duty version. Love it. I keep testing it on bigger and bigger bottles. My mate said "what about the tweezers and toothpick ya carn?" and I said "it's a true-blue fugn army knife mate! Go buy a make-up kit if ya need tweezers." Also, I have the Explorer in black (for extra tacticality). It has tweezers...

The Large Alox with Scissors

The beautiful silver alox scales (handles) with the scissors in the large package. While you can get a smaller alox with scissors, this is the only full sized one with a scissors. Typical nice Victorinox quality in a beautiful package.

Yes, you can find other SAK's with more features, yes I do miss the toothpick, but for those who appreciate simplicity and affordable quality it's hard to beat. Alox models are the fine swiss watches of the multi-tool world along with Victorinox's plier based Spirits. Did I need it? Not really. Am I glad I have it? Yes. Tell your spouse you could have much more expensive hobbies than collecting pocket knives. You can pass this one down to the next generation or two.

Practical EDC

It’s a victorinox so let’s just say it’s quality knife. Second I don’t ever have a use for a wine cork. I would take a tinker over a Spartan any day. Not sure why they put a wine cork on so many “hiking” knives? I hike a lot and I never see any hikers with a bottle of wine they need help opening, Anyway this knife has all that you need. I love the alox scales and I have yet to scratch the alox like my red Swiss Army knives. All the tools pop into place and the quality is great. This the deluxe tinker, tinker, hiker, and the Swiss champ are my favorites.

My favorite SAK so far

I've always loved Swiss Army Knives and this SAK is as close to perfect for me as it will get. I have been waiting for an alox with scissors for a very long time. My breakdown on the tools -Scissors; They cut well and are a good size -Blade; size & thickness are good, came with an edge sharp enough to shave hairs. for the price the blade material is nice, easy to sharpen and holds an edge long enough. -Can opener; I don't use can openers much, but I tried this one for the sake of it. It works, but is definitely an if-nothing-else tool. -Awl; another tool I don't use much but it is sharp enough to be a great blade-saver for tasks that you wouldn't want to use the main blade for. Not sure how good it is as an awl -cap-lifter; works great, slightly larger and therefore easier than a cadet. My only con would be that after using it for a while I noticed that there was a slight (and i REALLY mean slight) gap between the scale on one side, and the backsprings. overall this isn't really an issue, and doesn't affect performance, but someone a little more OCD might notice and mind. I chose to sand off the keyring loop as I don't use it, and I think the knife looks much better now
