Swiss Army Issue Version

This has taken the place of my other multi tool because it's light, and has everything I need for EDC. I've owned, and own many knives over my 30 year career in the U.S. Marine Corps. I would choose this as my deployment knife if I had to choose one, but I would marry it up with a Benchmade fixed blade. This knife is great for all your "domestic" chores while in the field and is incredibly handy and comfortable to carry. Many dislike the serrations, but I find it essential for retaining cutting power, yet still shapenable without specialized kit.

Victorinox OHO Soldier

This is a excellent general purpose knife that is easy to pocket carry and fun to use. I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a little more utility value than your typical oho folder offers. The serrated portion of the blade cuts cleanly and I really like that the serrations are at the front of the blade.

SWISS ARMY SOLDIER IDEAL SEARCH AND RESCUE KNIFE

I am a Search And Rescue Technician/Wilderness EMT Instructor. As an active SAR member and instructor I have the opportunity to test related equipment. I recently began using the Victorinox Swiss Army Soldier Knife for my pocket carry. It is replacing my Swiss Army Huntsman. The new Soldier Knife (which is the actual current issue to the Swiss Army) is larger and has more "heft" than the standard models of Swiss Army Knives. It feels heavier and stronger. The knife and saw blades are longer and heavier. The knife blade is locking which is a huge safety improvement. The blade has both straight and serrated sections. The serrated portion is at the tip, which makes more sense for cutting cordage or rope. The straight edge is toward the hilt so it is more controllable for close work. The saw is longer and heavier. A saw is essential for outdoor/rescue/survival uses. The blade is easily opened one handed with the thumb assist, and the rubber inserts in the handle make the knife comfortable to grip. The knife has a good variety of essential tools. After carrying the Swiss Army Soldier Knife for approximately a year I have found it to be an ideal Search And Rescue/Survival type folding pocket knife. I realize opinions concerning knives are greatly varied and there is no universal consensus as to the ideal knife. With that said, the Swiss Army Soldier has no deficiencies and is worthy of serious consideration as a "working knife". Note: No single knife, or tool, will meet all of the potential uses. The Swiss Army Soldier has met all of my needs for a "pocket folding knife". Multi-tools and fixed blade knives are also essential outdoor tools and should also be carried. It is not a question of carrying a folding knife, OR a multi-tool, OR a fixed blade knife. Each of these tools has a different purpose and should be evaluated separately. Personally I carry a Leatherman Wave on my belt and an Ontario USAF Aircrew Survival Knife in my pack. The reasons for these choices is a separate discussion. Concerning choosing a good working folding pocket knife; the Swiss Army Soldier Knife is my first choice. Note 2: Along the Search And Rescue/Survival tool theme; Victorinox has also released the Swiss Army Rescue Knife which is more specific to fire, rescue, and emergency medical responders. The RESCUE knife is the same frame and tools as the SOLDIER, with an additional webbing/seatbelt cutter and glass breaker added. I carry the RESCUE knife in my medic pack. I realize everyone has their individual opinions, but after a year of use, it is my opinion that you will not be disappointed when you choose to carry the Swiss Army Soldier. Dallas, from Arizona

A good overall One-Knife-Option

Good version of a classic idea. I like the one handed models and I like this one the most for just carrying one blade. It does the most good for what I need. BTW - the serrations are where they are because the part of the blade nearest the handle is where the most amount of leverage is when cutting. And it only has one grind BECAUSE of the serrations. Also, a one sided grind is the EASIEST to sharpen, since you only have one side to deal with... and is a common way to include serrations on a blade. You sharpen the ground side till you get a burr... then one or two very light swipes on the non ground side will remove the burr and you have a sharp blade.

NEW Swiss Army Knife my good

I have previously Victorinox Pioneer, but I was afraid because it was not the best course to be very careful to avoid heavy or skin puncture for fear that close it on his finger that hurts a lot and will likely draw my blood research save and buy I decided to buy a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife is much improved NEW best quality security lock is designed to open with one hand I use every day Thanks Victorinox.

my mother gave this knife to me at my birthday a year ago. i'm from bulgaria and me and my family have cottage house in the village of katunishte. so i use it every day whether city or village. it's just awesome.great knife.

Very good knife. most pleased with the lock device and manufacturing quality blade. Very comfortable handle and the handle material. Does not slide. A bit surprised by the absence of such branded items as a toothpick and Tweezers

A Militarized Trekker

This Knife is the Victorinox Swiss Army Trekker in Military dress. A great knife no matter how you look at it. Perfect knife for just about anything! My Trekker is combat proven and I would take this model anywhere.

Outstanding field knife

I bought this knife to replace a trekker model with the same features. It was lost during an exciting pig hunt in outback Queensland. A damn shame because it was a fine knife. The saw on these models is an excellent tool. Mine has cut shelter poles, help make shooting sticks and even sawed through bone. The serrated main blade has an excellent shape. It is a very aggressive cutting tool. I use mine to sever tendons and separate joins while harvesting meat. An EZE-LAP pen style sharpener rides with my knife in its sheath. It is a must have item. Mate this knife with a specific hunting style blade like the Ghroman #1 belt knife, or my favourite Green River "sheep skinner" and you have the perfect kit.

Good sized Swiss Army knife

Overall, a good knife. I like the size, compared to other Swiss Army knives that I have. It has a good feel in the hand, and with the locking blade and added size, give more of a "knife" and less "multi tool" feel. It has all of my most used tools from other models, which added to the attractiveness to me. The criticisms that I have are that the serrated part of the blade seems awkward, the thumb hole opener is not the easiest to use and the lock release is difficult to safely operate with one hand.

Great knife...lose or move the serrations..

I purchased this knife from knifecenter late 2011 iirc. So far it has held up well to camp use during day/weekend hikes and also as a daily carry for everyday chores. I like the one handed opening feature and the addition of the lock-back feature, particularly on the large flat head driver. I don't know how many times I've pinched fingers from an older SAK closing on me while putting any real force on it. My only gripe is the serrated edge. It's located in a dang irritating area on the blade. Starts about a 1/3rd of the way out from the base and extends almost the entire length stopping just a 1/4" or so shy of the end, leaving just a smidgen of real blade to do anything with with the exception of the first inch near the base of the blade. The other gripe about the serrations and the blade grind in general is that mine came ground completely on one angle/side. IE it's a PITA to sharpen. I gave up and reground it to have an edge on both sides. Lose the serrations or shorten them and move them closer to the hilt and I'll rock this knife until the day I die or we are departed by 1000' of water.
