Great everyday carry knife & tool set

Thought I had lost my 20+ year old Trekker. Besides an everyday knife, I get frequent use out of the screwdrivers and saw blade. After looking for my original for 6 weeks, I ordered a new one. Naturally a few days after the new one arrived, I found the old one. The old one was with me on a deployment to Kuwait in 2005 and has been on more deer and elk hunting trips and more hours of hayfield work than I could possibly recall. It needed to be retired to a safe place, anyway. The saw blade on the new one is sharper than the old one, but the old one has cut lots of cardboard, plastic, wood, bamboo, deer bone, and some light sheet metal over the years. Naturally it's not as sharp as a new one, but after all that use, it still works well. The new one will saw a bit quicker, though.

Amazingly practical SAK

Only had it for a few weeks, but this is maybe the most useful and practical EDC multitool I've come across. I am going to buy more for my friends.

  • The blade is a little goofy but again it is very practical, an excellent choice if you are only bringing one knife with you. I am with one of the reviewers: I wish it was fully serrated, I keep a separate straight sheepsfoot blade and I am sure that's quite common. But both parts of the blade work well. It is SAK steel, it's pretty soft by design, for field sharpening. I think a sharpening steel would get you pretty far. The order of serration-straight actually works well for ropes or vines - some people think the serrations should be closer to the handle, I think I disagree. It has a locking bar and can't be unlocked safely with one hand, not a problem for this.

  • The saw is very good. It is a slipjoint and maybe should have a locking bar.... this is a good knife but it is a little awkwardly designed, in general. Not because Victorinox is stupid: it's a small package with a lot of utility, it has some compromises.

  • The other tools are also good, and an appealing selection. A highlight is that the screwdrivers are carefully centered on the handle and easy to use.

  • As usual you need nails of steel to open the awl.

  • The handle is a very nice soft-textured plastic, and well-shaped.

I would like a hypothetical version that was all-serrated. But other than that min

Solid

EDC'd for 3 years love the serrations on the blade. The saw is awesome I have used it to cut through bamboo while clearing a huge patch. Only complaint is that is a pain to clean like all SAKs. Excellent knife.

Just right

I had a Victorinox in the 1980s and it had many tools on it I never used. The Trekker is just right. It has all the tools I used all the time and none of the ones I never used. The lock is a liner lock and it is both smooth and solid. The serrated blade is super sharp. I'm recommending it to everyone.

Trekker SAK

Pros: -Awesome, gigantic saw -Large blade (serrated in this model) Cons: -Inch or so of non-serration on the blade (I'd like it to be fully serrated since I also carry a plain edge pocket knife)

Comes In Handy

I carried this knife on my IBA (Body Armor) in a Specops brand sheath and I wound up using it alot more than the fixed blade combat knife (Buck Nighthawk) that I brought to Afghanistan. With the exception of the wood saw I used every implement often especially the slot and Phillips head screwdrivers. The liner locking blade is very sharp and the serrations zip through webbing, cardboard and wire ties.

Exellent tool

I use it everyday on the farm, I wish I knew that it doesn't fit the Bcuk 110 folding hunter black leather sheath . Very good quality knife. My previous one is 25+ years old and still very good.
