The Best Knife Is The One You Have
I've been using SAKs for almost 40 years. Sure, if I'm camping I'm gonna have my Huntsman on me. It is the best for hiking. But I don't spend most of my time hiking. I spend it working, or just going about my normal daily routine. And I own a can opener, so if I need one at home, I'm covered. What I need when I walk around is a few basic tools most SAKs have. What I don't need is the bulk of a large knife that makes carrying it a chore. The Compact is all the best, most useful tools Victorinox packs, and nothing else. It's small enough to carry without any problem at all, but it's big enough to pack the full-sized tools I need. If I ever need more tools or a smaller package, I go with the Minichamp. Do yourself a favor and get one of these. I own two. I've been using them since they came out about a decade ago. Think of it as a Bantam plus scissors, jeweler's screwdriver, pen, pin, and hook. Get it. GET IT.
