A modern classic with tactical elegance?

The blade shape is unique and is relatively thin for a gentleman's EDC needs. The handle shape fits my hand size perfectly (mens' large size golf gloves fit me snug) I own two versions of this model. I purchased the ram's horn version with a leather pouch first and loved it so much that I subsequently also purchased the lava carbon fiber version with a pocket clip, to pair with a sporty red and black wristwatch. Both samples are beautiful and operate extremely smooth as of now. However... both of them had a disappointing gritty action out of the box. They both needed some oil, and working of the action just a bit, to get them to the buttery smooth action that I enjoy now. They now operate so smoothly that, after a bit of exercising my finger strength, I can close them one-handed by disengaging the back-lock with my index finger and I just let the blade free-fall home by the force of gravity, while my other fingers stay out of the blade path. The pocket clip has a slight upcurve that could easily catch on some things if you often brush up against stuff, so be careful about that, but the shape of the clip fits well in the grip of the hand and does not cause a substantial hot spot. Overall I am quite pleased. This is a high-class item that was relatively costly, but in hindsight I would buy it again (both versions) I have a growing collection but everything I own gets rotated into my carry routine. If I could change anything about this model, it might be to offer a stonewashed blade finish instead of satin. I can't think of anything negative about it, other than be careful to not get your finger in the path of the blade when you disengage the lock, because it will drop fast and easy! The blade edge was very sharp out of the box too, with very even/symmetrical grinds each side. Beautiful.

Outstanding!

4 years into becoming a knife nerd/enthusiast and having collected a number of mid-level knives, I just sold 12 of them to get this beauty. For a production product and my limited “really really nice knife” experience, this has to way up there on the really really nice knife scale. Very pleased and look forward to more Viper knives.

Wow! I saw knife center promoting this knife and fell in love with the craftsmanship. I am Italian and we Italians love our God, our women, & and our blades! I’m so glad I picked this up. I got the lava carbon fiber handle. Very very sharp out of the box. Premium materials for a good premium price. Thank you knife center for fast shipping!

OMGoodness. I have high end customs that don’t bring the smiles!

In all transparency I have the Green Jungle Wear version and only post my review here because I am blessed to get the last of those and now it is a discontinued product. I have high end customs that aren’t as special as this knife. The fit and finish is immaculate. The blade is shaving sharp right out of the box. The knife is easy to open and close one handed. I wear XL work, biking, dress, and shooting gloves and this knife fits my hand perfectly. It is VERY easy to carry and I love the very deep pocket clip. The finish on the carbon fiber is not as smooth and polished as my ZT0770CF and that’s a good thing. The feel in hand is just a joy. The bolsters and the CF have a very similar feel and it is consistent from bolster to scale to clip giving just a little more grip than a perfectly polished metal/CF pairing does. The noises it makes are awesome as well… the very positive snapping sounds as the blade locks open and clicks closed…. I do have other folders in the price point, but none of them provide the same balance of “too pretty to use” and “too awesome not to use every day.” I am torn as to how I’m going to use this knife. I wish Knifecenter would carry the Turn Essentials and I would already own an ivory micarta for my EDC and this version for my “special” carry. In short, stop thinking about it and pull the trigger. This is without a doubt a knife that is punching above it’s weight class in fit and finish, quality of materials, and bang for your buck. I will buy another version or six of this knife in the very near future. If only they has a blue/gray/black CF version that would resemble a naval camo…. Seeing some of the premium boxes Viper puts out, it would have been nice to see one with this knife though.
