Awesome but somewhat bulky...

My example of this knife is very different from the prior reviewer's. The blade tucks into the frame properly with no hint of tip exposing itself when closed. The action is flawless when new & and will only get better with use. Tolerances are exacting & who doesn't like Magnacut? The blade shape is a perfect EDC style & that grippy handle is amazing. That said the grippy handle makes this knife more bulky than it should be. This boils down to a matter of personal preference & beauty/feel is subjective. I love this knife! 5 Starz!

Viper Moon with a SureTouch handle is near perfection

No matter what I use a knife for I want to be able to fully control that knife, and the biggest factor in that is the nature of knife's handle: its size, shape and material. About a year ago I bought a Viper Moon with G10 handles here on KnifeCenter with a red, G10 handle. It fit perfectly in my hand with no hotspots whatsoever once I removed the $!#^#@% pocket clip. (I HATE ALL POCKET CLIPS!) The Viper Moon is far and away the most comfortable pocket knife I have, and it's VERY controllable because the shape and size of the handle so perfectly fits my hand. HOWEVER I need to grip that handle firmly to compensate for the smoothness of the G10 scales on the handle. Consequently other knives I have lock more firmly into my grip for reasons of their size, shape, and NOT having smooth G10 scales. Recently I purchased my first pocket knife which has SureTouch scales. WOW! What those alternating layers of G10 and rubber do to improve grip and controllability is amazing. So why not have SureTouch scales on my Viper Moon??? I suppose I might have found SureTouch scales for my Moon somewhere, but I decided to do an apples-to-apples comparison with two Viper Moons, one with G10 scales and the other with SureTouch scales. OMFG!! The rubber in the SureTouch handles makes that Viper Moon lock into my grip almost like it is glued to my hand. I can now get a better grip on my Viper Moon with its SureTouch handle than on any of my other knives. I cannot recommend this knife enough for the comfort of its perfect (for my hands) handle shape and the security of its SureTouch grip. Oh, and the Viper Moon has all that other good stuff like a great, strong, Magnacut blade; a very nice button lock; smooth flipper action; etc.

A wonderful hard use knife

True, this knife is a little "chunky" in the pocket but I knew that going in. The number of things this blade does so well is amazing. I have abused mine as a camp tool from batoning wood to slicing meat & scraping metal plates. My example has held an edge despite rough treatment & strops back quickly. It was never meant to be a "pretty" knife but beauty is in the eye of the beholder & I like #@%* that works. The action, fit & finish are world class with multiple means of deployment. The Suretouch handles are great & are easily gripped with messy or fishy hands. Alaskan outdoors activities will put anything through a stress test. This knife is HIGHLY recommended.

Quality materials, poor execution

This knife should be good. The materials are awesome. When open, the grip is comfortable and the blade is razor sharp. However, when closed, the blade isn't fully protected by the grip and can cut your fingers, hand, and clothing (and due to how sharp it is, you may not even notice you got cut!). Also, after opening and closing several times the pivot screw seems to tighten and a smooth action can only be achieved again by loosening it. I want to like this knife. In fact, I want to love this knife but the problems are so glaring that I cannot.
