Who Knew; It's A Blue Raccoon!
For some reason, I currently like knives with blue handles. This Raccoon is now a regular in my EDC Knife Rotation. This model of the Vosteed Knives Raccoon has a modest Blue Micarta Handle. The grip has been good, but I haven't needed to use it in wet or muddy situations. I use the Raccoon as an urban everyday carry knife: it has been more than adequate, but I have a few knives with S35VN (i.e., Knifes Lander 3s) and one knife with a MagnaCut Blade, Doug Ritter Doug Ritter RSK MK1-G2. 14C28N steel theoretically offers the following: • Decent Edge Retention (I have been practicing my honing and stropping skills with the Blue Raccoon so it is approaching "as sharp as I can make a knife." • Good Toughness • Good Corrosion Resistance • It has been easy to maintain. I found some numbers on the four knife blade characteristics: Ratings (1–10 scale; where 10 = the best) Edge Retention: 5 Toughness: 8 Corrosion Resistance: 8 Ease of Sharpening: 8 (10= easy to sharpen) The Vosteed Raccoon has a sharp blade and a very smooth button lock. It seems very fidget-friendly if you like wrist flicking (I'm more of a rear flipper tab flickerer). The Micarta handle is very comfortable for my average-sized male hands. I like thicker handles, but it does have a good shape, a good sharpening choil, and a very good finger choil. In 2025, it is currently at what some sellers call a budget-friendly price, i.e., less than $75US.
