Great affordable Dagger - reminiscent of more expensive classics

Ordered this more as a novelty. Wanted a dagger but didn’t want one bad enough to pay hundreds for something like an Applegate. This knife is well worth the price. It is somewhat heavy - very solid. The grip great - comfortable and non-slip texture. The 440C steel is fine for the price. The knife doesn’t come that sharp but it is very easy to put a nice edge on it. Not sure if this is accurate, but I read they “serrations” served more to create a larger wound channel than to actually cut or saw anything. They are very dull and flat…. Not serrations, but just notches in the blade. I used a pointed diamond pocket sharpener to file them and give the “serrations” pointy teeth instead of dull notches. Only took 10 minutes. Again, I see this knofe as more of a novelty. If you want a usable modern dagger or boot knife that is easy to carry, I would suggest something like the Cold Steel Korbun. However this Walther is just more fun to see on a shelf and pick up to handle. Feels reminiscent of something from the past. It is certainly not a toy and is a legit dagger, but my only intention was to buy as a neat novelty. And why not at the great price. I thought the sheath was better than expected for the price. It is innovative. Large study belt loop. Has a metal clip you can modify for IWB carry, clip on a belt, clip on a bag, boot carry. Has a suspender clip / shoulder strap. Decent quality and innovative. I wouldn’t carry it. Pretty heavy / bulky but for the money the sheath was better than expected and is usable.

Best $20 knife you will ever find

I can't say enough good things about this knife. It's basically an Applegate-Fairbairn Combat dagger copy. The weight and feel are almost identical. The main difference is it costs $20 instead of $300. Is it just as good? No. Is it 15 times worse? Absolutely not, but it costs 15 times less. I have a Boker Applegate-Fairbairn A-F Combat II Dagger and it's beautiful, but at $300 no way am I carrying it anywhere, lol. But for $20 I have no worries about using or losing the P99. I bought a second after getting my first I was so impressed with it. Now I have one for the collection, and one for my car. I'm going to get a third one on my next Knifecenter order for the wife's car. I actually like the grip better on the P99 than the AF. Blade is thick, needle sharp point, and super sharp edges, in fact the second one I got was even sharper than the first and shaves hair easily. Another great thing is the new ones do not have that stupid "P99 Tactical Knife" written in huge letters on the blade anymore, and now just have a little Walther flag. These were sold out for a long time before coming back in stock and I was beginning to think I would never get one. I recommend buying one or more now before they sell out again, you will not be sorry. Knifecenter is the place to get it too as their shipping is lightening fast and their service unbeatable. I used to be a loyal Blade HQ customer, and they are a fine seller, but Knifecenter has them beat hands down.

Impressive value

For $20? Looks and feels like it could be 2-5 times that. New ones don't have the gaudy text on the side. Sheath is minimal, but functional. Kind of gimmicky sling, or belt carry. I've got a SOG Desert Dagger worth 10x this knife, but if I was going out with a purpose, I think I'd take the Walther.

Unexpected quality

I bought this because I am fond of Boker daggers but never wanted to spend the money for one. When opened the box I was pleasantly surprised to find that this knife far exceeded my expectations. The fit and finish were excellent and the blade was extremely sharp. The sheath on the other hand was as expected nothing great. The knife was well worth twice the price. If you like daggers I would recommend with no reservations.

Bang for your Buck

You're going to have a hard time finding a better knife for the price anywhere. It has a great heft and is built like a tank. The fit and finish are nice and tight. The blade and finger guard are both stout with a comfortable, grippy handle. I really like the blade profile. One blade is fully sharpened, but the back side has a lot going on. The third of the blade at the tip is sharpened to give it a dagger profile at the end for penetration. The middle section of the back side is unsharpened giving it a little extra strength and the back third has nice serrations. I'm not sure how useful they would be, but they give it a great aesthetic. Overall, it's a great looking blade. As a bonus, I'm very happy to see 440 blade steal over the MOV range of steals that seem to dominate this price point. If I had to nit pick, the sheath is nothing to write home about, but once you take off the extraneous straps, it's a serviceable, basic sheath. The knife isn't particularly sharp out of the box, but that's an easy fix. This is no Applegate-Fairbairn, but at 1/10 the price it's a bargain and then some!

Partial Review

I haven't had a chance to really see this thing used because I bought it for an Christmas present later this year. I can say from looking it over that the quality of the knife itself seems very impressive especially considering the price. The bevela looked good and it seemed to be fairly sharp. It's definitely a heavy knife but it's not going to really be used for carrying so no worries there. The sheath seemed really cheap and honestly the biggest issue with the purchase. Calling it usable is a stretch and these days there's really no excuse for sheaths this cheap. I'd also recommend a better knife steel, even if it bumps the price up a bit. There are several much better options at this price point and a bit above. Overall I'd still recommend it at this price.
