The ZT 0462 is fantastic

Just want to mentioned that this knife stands out for its exceptional quality and style. If you like this style, no hesitation, go for it ! I am very happy with it. It has a whoaaa effect as soon as you open it , impressive styling, the functionality is exceptional and butter smooth action, the materials are top notch and the design ingenious. The price is higher but what you are getting is far more than the price.

Absolute Stone Masterpiece

I'm a big fan of the 0452 and was surprised that the 0462 completely eclipsed it as my favorite. The Persian style isn't for everyone but for me it's not only beautiful but the handle shapes perfectly in my hand in ways the 0452 does not. It's also lighter and has better action than the 0452, which is saying a lot. One thing that I rarely see people mention is how important it is for your fingers to be protected if you have to use a knife in self defense. The Persian style design creates this deep groove behind the flipper that makes it safe in ways that the 0452 is not, something you won't be able to fully appreciate until you have it in hand.

Excellent Blade

$500 knife for $240. Nice big blade, but doesn't take up the whole pocket. Light, balanced, razor sharp, tough as nails. The red carbon fiber is very nice & makes the knife stand out from other carbon fiber handles, without being obnoxious.

One of the best

i can’t say enough good things about this blade. Basically everything about it us top quality; blade steel and shape, handle ergonomics, lockup, and blade centering were all perfect and the red tint to the carbon fiber front scale looks great. It’s also extremely light and thin despite having a good sized blade and the blade shape is good for a variety of tasks but especially slicing cuts. In fact, there is really nothing I dislike about it, although I would note that it is probably not what most would consider an extremely hard use knife given that the tip is pretty thin, and the detente might be a bit on the firm side for some (though it is fine to me). In sum, this is a knife whose quality far exceeds its price and is highly recommended.

Update on my review on Hard to Open

I recently wrote a review, and said I would do a revision to my review once I had a better sense of the issues with my knife. The key issue is that it is sometimes difficult to open. I see that the difficulty is that the detent is exposed to pressure on part of the handle. If you try to open it while gripping on the titanium ribbon that presses on the detent, that pressure will tend to hold the blade in place, making it hard to open. In order to have a smooth flipper action, your fingers cannot be on that ribbon. The knife is a work of art, has a great blade in terms of the steel and shape, an ergonomic design, and I enjoy handling it. It is light for such a large knife, and can be great for everyday carry. But because of the need to be concerned about how you hold the knife when opening it, the knife is not suitable for self-defense.

ZT & DS made 2 tone blade, 2 handle scales, too good...

Fourteenth review coming. I am a collector so it's about in hand not in the field. It took me several tries before I purchased this one for my collection. Started, stopped, and finally clicked on place the order. I read all the previous reviews to get a sense of what others think about this ZT beauty. I never argue with perception. I did find the initial attempt to use the flipper immovable as if it was glued shut. Two attempts thereafter the blade seem to release from its nest and a gorgeous Persian style blade flew open. The handle scales in red and black carbon fiber are unusual and aesthetically pleasing. The pivot cover is with its three "V" carved sections suggest the motion of the blade. Two knives because one side is carbon fiber and the other is strictly Titanium, technical and weapon-like (or not). I don't mind the ZT Logo imprinted on the pocket clip. It's so pale in appearance, but I can appreciate how someone might wish it were someplace else. Where? I like the details on both sides. The ribbed lower section and a brief ribbed section on top on the Titanium side. For me the pocket clip kind'a disappoints, as it blends in but the black screws should have been Titanium in color because it's just too busy back there and the black speaker screw adds clutter. The symmetry of the pivot cover on both sides is a good decision. The 0462 is light as a feather. Two knives because I feel confident holding the handle end and I think facing the Persian shape blade, I would feel other than. If the blade is two-tone, I am not able to discern this. Still, it's a beautiful blade shaped and flowing into the handle like one felt swoop. The feel of this light narrow EDC is solid nevertheless. Another addition to the confidence. I find holding the handle comfortable and don't mind the pocket clip, which I doing my best to ignore visually. My serial number is 10,3XX. Tactically, for such a purpose, the blade flies open with an audible click. And with just a bit more than an impulse, the frame lock releases the blade to either flip it closed or gently guide it with only one finger. This EDC is as dangerous as it is beautiful which adds to its beauty. The long slightly raised ribbed black spacer back doesn't add aesthetically but maybe for other purposes. Perhaps for a stable hand grasp. The visible see-through gap obviously to reduce weight also allows one to see through and for some odd reason I like the view. There is no flex to any section of this EDC. It's solid, light, with a dangerous looking blade open and pointed at other. It opens fast with a finger flick; and it closes easily and comfortably again with a flick or one finger. The audible sounds opening and closing are also comforting. Closed with the blade cradled and centered even in that tucked in shape this Sinkevich design pleases. Glad I hemmed and hawed then with one finger clicked on place and let KCI whisk it off to me in the usual jet pack speed. KCI also threw in a promotion tool. Thank you. Very H pleased my first ZT found its way to my collection. Waiting on a 0562TI Rick Hinderer so my ZTs have company. Pricey and Recommended.

I love this knife!

Well made and so fun to flip. The red is subtle in most lighting, which I like, but still glints red in brighter light or outside in the sun. Sure to catch attention before you flip out the blade. 3.75? I’m not sure how it’s measured, but it seems like 5in. It’s like a beautiful steak knife that folds. It’s the big carry to accompany my Launch 9.

Great slicer

This is a great, light slicer with some good ergos. I happen to really like the red carbon fiber and that blade is just bad a**. It’s similar to the 0452cf but handles a little differently. I do prefer the 0452 but this is still a really great knife.

What are you waiting for?

It's so smooth out of the box and locks up great! I've been carrying it for about a month now and this is sure to be my EDC knife alongside a second with D2(for hard use purposes). I'm liking the 20cv came very sharp out of the box on the 0462, and I'm glad I was able to get a low serial number. I've been using it for everything! From Kali to opening letters, I'm not really some one who will use a folder for food prep though, not so fun to clean when you're , skinning/gutting (blade shape would work wonders for that application) just not prepared to have to clean it out so often. Also the newer design of the pivot screw doesn't have a catch like the 0460 does (still that knife is too small for my hands), that's my only gripe. I like the overall length, fits in my hand so well and it's ergonomics are great, no hotspots! The pocket clip annoyed me after looking at how clean the knife is especially on the carbon presentation side, so the first thing I did was file it off and leave the grind lives parallel to the blade lines. At first upon deploying, I found my fingers resting up against the lock face to the point where I couldn't trigger the flipper, because I found myself along force into the detent since the handles aren't wide. It does take a little getting used to in readjusting your hand and gaining the muscle memory to deploy it without thinking but the Zero Tolerance 0462 it's worth it.

My new favorite knife

For awhile I had been debating between this and the 0562CF, and not really finding the shape of this one particularly appealing (though not unappealing, just neutral) I ended up going with the Hinderer model instead. That is certainly a great knife, albeit a little on the heavier side but it didn't really stand out to me much above many of the other stellar staples I own like the PM2, Manix 2, Recon 1, and Griptillian (also in 20CV). So after a fair amount of time enjoying the 0562CF I decided for some unknown reason that I still needed to buy this one. Perhaps the shape had grown on me a little bit, but I really think it was the dark red accents in the carbon fiber that were calling to me. Anyhow, I bought it, and when I received it I had what was probably the most positive “YES!” impression I’ve ever had upon taking a new knife out of the box and handling it. Everything about it seemed just right for me. The size, the weight, the ergonomics, the construction, the handle material, the blade material (20CV and M390 are my absolute favorites), and of course the action. It just flew open with the small flipper and then basically dropped shut once the frame lock was disengaged. Handling this knife was (and is) simply a pleasure. On the con side (because nothing is perfect, right?) I had to list the pocket clip, not because this knife needs a deep carry clip, but rather for two other reasons: 1) the ZT branding on it—if only they had left it blank to match the clean look of the rest of the knife it would have been perfect, and 2) it doesn’t flair enough at the tip of the clip to allow it to slide over the edge of jean pockets. Also, I had to list blade sharpness as a con, not because it wasn’t sharp, but because the bevel is a bit uneven over the length of the blade, and because it just isn’t as sharp or as flawless a grind as any of the 20+ Spyderco knives I’ve received from their Golden, CO factory. With the name “Zero Tolerance” combined with the impeccable construction quality in every other aspect of the knife, you would expect that they would pay very particular attention to the part of the knife that truly allows it to function. That being said, my two cons are really pretty picky and very negligibly impact my perceptions of this amazing knife. The bottom line with this one is that if you have been coming back to this particular web page to view it multiple times in the past day, week, or month, do yourself a favor and don’t wait like I did. Out of the 60+ folding knives I own, this one impressed me more right out of the box than any other.

Somewhat better after disassembly...

Here's my update on "Difficult to Operate". After disassembling I discovered a tiny burr next to the pivot. I used small 600 grit then 800

Hard to open

I wanted a knife that is more substantial with higher quality steel, and that is easy to hold and carry. This meets those criteria. It is a beautiful knife, but has a big drawback in that sometimes it is very hard to open. Maybe mine was not calibrated well. I've contacted KnifeCenter about it, and can do an update depending on what the story is. In terms of carry, the clip holds the end of the knife above the pocket. This is good in one way -- it is more comfortable, because although it is a bigger knife, by having more sitting outside the pocket there is less in the pocket. The downside is that everyone knows you are carrying a knife. In terms of feel, I prefer a knife that has some ridges and "stickiness" to it. Not a major deal, but I was surprised that there was no pattern or ridging.

An Awesome knife with deployment issues...

My example is EXTREEMLY difficult to open. I an am aware of the finger placement issues as mentioned by other reviewers yet try as I may this thing is a real pill to open. After a 30 min. session my index finger was raw from trying to find the "just right" angle to put pressure on the flipper tab for deployment. I wil make some minor adjustments to see if that will smooth the opening action

Defective resin in scales

My first and last ZT product is a red black carbon scale 462 after 4 Benchmades. I pocket carry daily for 2x years. All of the resin on the red colored fiber weave is disintigrating exposing carbon strands while the black resin part of the weave looks like brand new, not a scratch. The 2 different carbon fiber colors are wearing completely different, the red resin is defective. I was told this is normal wear and ZT would not warranty the $40 carbon scale on a $300 knife with 50% of the resin eroding and 50% looking new. I own many CF material items including a money clip I’ve had for 10 years in my pocket which is not wearing like an uneven checkerboard. I explained all this to a ZT customer service rep over the phone. ZT lifetime warranty is garbage and they dont care about keeping customers or standing behind their product. Buy a Benchmade!
