CIVIVI Propugnator Fixed Blade FAQ
Designed by Piotr Gosciniak of PG Knives, the CIVIVI Propugnator is a heavy-duty utility fixed blade featuring a unique compound-ground blade and multiple handle material options.
What type of steel is used in the CIVIVI Propugnator series?
The CIVIVI Propugnator series uses D2 tool steel for its 4.15-inch blades. This steel is chosen for its high hardness and edge retention, making the Propugnator well-suited for heavy-duty daily tasks and utility work.
What are the benefits of the Propugnator's compound grind?
The compound grind on the CIVIVI Propugnator provides two different cutting geometries on a single edge. The front of the blade features a higher flat grind for improved slicing capability, while the rear section is ground stouter to provide extra durability for heavy pushing cuts.
What handle materials are available for the Propugnator?
The series offers several durable handle options, including milled G10, green canvas Micarta, and polished Ultem. The Ultem variants are particularly distinct because the translucent material reveals the skeletonized steel tang underneath, while all models feature a mountain tread texture for increased traction.
Does the Propugnator come with a carry system?
Yes, every CIVIVI Propugnator includes a Kydex sheath equipped with a T-Clip. This T-Clip is a versatile mounting solution similar to a Tech-Lock, but it uses slots instead of holes to ensure compatibility with a wider variety of aftermarket attachments for one of the best fixed blades in its class.
What is the purpose of the fuller on the Propugnator blade?
The fuller on each side of the Propugnator blade reduces overall weight and adds visual interest, but it also serves a functional ergonomic purpose. It provides a secure landing spot for the thumb and forefinger when using a pinch grip, allowing for more controlled tip work.
Is the CIVIVI Propugnator intended for tactical use?
While it has a striking appearance, the Propugnator is primarily designed as a heavy-working utility fixed blade rather than a tactical tool. Its thick blade stock and ergonomic grip prioritize strength and comfort for demanding everyday tasks.
