What steel is used in the Fox Chilin series?
The Fox Chilin series primarily uses N690Co or M398 stainless steel depending on the specific model. The base G10 and aluminum versions feature N690Co, while high-performance variants utilize M398, a premium steel known for its exceptional edge retention.
What makes M398 steel special on the premium Chilin models?
M398 offers some of the highest edge retention available in production stainless steels, comparable to high-end non-stainless steels like 10V or 15V. While it is not the toughest steel available, the Chilin compensates for this with a blade thickness that provides structural strength and a full flat grind for efficient slicing.
How do the ergonomics of the Fox Chilin feel?
The Chilin is designed to melt into the hand, providing a secure grip without any parts impeding your hand placement. The downward cant of the blade allows you to use the tip very effectively, and the design lets you get close to the edge for high-pressure cuts at the heel of the blade.
What handle material options are available?
