i use this as a finisher for straight razors.. you need to lap it out to 1000grit to smooth it out.

Good and nice . . .
My last step before leathers when honing straight razors, an absolutely beautiful stone and a real pleasure to use. Allows outstanding finish on knives, but not suitable for beginners in sharpening.

I haven't had the stone long, but I can see that it's best use is for that final polish on the edge. I is excellent for woodworking chisels and gouges as well as knives
