Exactly what a final polishing stone should be.
Before purchasing this stone I had done my final polishing (before stroping) on a hard arkansas stone (select or true, I don't know which) or a Lansky extra-fine or ultra-fine if I chose to use a clamping system. This stone is far better for finishing than either. Because the surface is so flat, only a little oil is needed for lubrication, making it arguably cleaner than an overpriced waterstone. (There's no need for the waterstone slurry.) In addition, it will never need to be flattened. Something I like about this stone is that it is not mounted to the base (unlike some other translucents I've seen advertised). If I ever drop it on my concrete floor and break a chunk out of the edge (NOOOoooo...), I can use the other side. Great stone. Compare prices and you'll buy here.
