ASP52222: 16" Clip-On Airweight Baton

ASP

The P12 and P16 Batons provide administrators, investigators and undercover operators with an Every Day Carry (EDC) Friction Loc® Baton. Each expandable design provides 4140 striking power. These are easy carry batons with the world class striking potential of an ASP impact weapon. Each is fabricated using ASP materials and ASP manufacturing techniques. They are finished using ASP coatings. Each P Series Baton is produced to the same standard of quality that has been adopted by police professionals in over 80 countries around the world.

The P12 and P16 are concealable. A 4140 striking surface is combined with a forged to shape 7075 T6 aluminum middle shaft and precision machined handle. The grip is fine line, Crosstec knurled with spiral micro grooves. Rings accept Snap Loc™ clips. Batons can be carried tip up or tip down. The clip can be adjusted to a variety of positions along the handle to enhance concealment or ease presentation. Whatever the activity, these batons are easily carried and rapidly presented. A constant companion for control and defense. Not compatible with replacement end caps. Batons have evolved over the years and engineers at ASP have determined that by having slightly more overlap from one tube to another, it increases the strength of the baton. Although the individual tubes will add up to 16", the overlap will slightly reduce the overall length. Made in the USA.

Very lightweight but rigid
First, a tip for making baton collapse more easily: take it apart and rub graphite (aka dry lube) lubricant on the parts that form the friction lock (end of collars).Well balanced, and well made. Felt strong on a few practice runs. The graphite significantly eases retraction.

ASP P16
I carry this product for self defense. It is very comfortable in the pocket, and with minimal practice is easy to open quickly. Traditional baton tactics can be difficult because of the diminutive size, but slightly modifying your grip and foot positioning will alleviate that problem. For such a lightweight baton the P16 hits hard. Strikes on the heavy bag felt good and solid. You really have to close the distance to get a good hit, but because this is a smaller lighter baton it is definitely quicker to swing, and would be harder for you assailant to track. They can't block or avoid the blow if they have trouble seeing it coming. All in all I feel very comfortable with the P16 as a less than lethal defensive tool. I would suggest to anyone considering an expandable baton for a personal defense tool to seek out some formal training first. Your tool is only as good as your knowledge to use it.

Will not close!
Received P12 Airweight in the mail today, the right size, and opening action, however, the baton WILL NOT close! The middle section collapses, but the part with tip stays stuck. Was able to close with the hammer, but would prefer NOT to carry a hammer around to close every time :-)Bottom line - crappy quality, since opening and closing with reasonable effort are two main functions of this instrument and P12 filed to deliver.
