The Bugout, Evolved – Sleek, Premium, and Built to Carry
The Benchmade 535BK-4 Bugout is everything I love about the Bugout platform—ultralight, pocket-friendly, and slicey—but taken to the next level with machined aluminum scales and M390 steel. This version feels rock-solid in hand compared to the Grivory models, but still carries like a dream. The black Cerakote blade looks incredible against the red anodized barrel spacers and hardware—really sharp, modern styling. Action is smooth, lockup is tight, and it cuts like a scalpel.I own multiple Bugouts, and this one easily lands in the top tier of the lineup. If you're a fan of the Bugout like I am, this version is a no-brainer. Tougher, sleeker, and still a joy to carry.

Great pocket knife
I own 20 Benchmade knives and I would like to have more but the price on knives are getting out of control and my SS check isn't getting bigger. My first Bugout was the blue plastic handles which I don't like at all so I bought the Titanium replacement handles and now I love it. The bugout has the perfect blade shape and the feel of it in the hand is great. How ever I don't care for the Cerakote finish on the blade but the aluminum handles are fantastic. I would like to see more metal handles and less plastic.

Evolving opinion
I guess I should be used to it by now. It's rare that I'm instantly in love with a new blade. Benchmades are typically in that "meh" category at unboxing. But, as usual, after tweaking and honing they turn out to be in my rotation of favorites. Out of the box, this Bugout is appealing to the eye. The red accents are a nice touch of elegance. It's very lightweight. M390 steel is a huge plus. Fit and finish, flawless. Action.. sluggish. Sharpness.. mediocre. About 10-15 minutes of stropping, a couple of strategically place drops of oil, a turn of a screw, and a fidgetfest of breaking in time has got the Bugout deployment as smooth as butter and the blade is borderline scary sharp. Bottom line: This version of the Bugout is not as "meh" as I first thought. It will definitely be in the rotation.
