BM9400BK: 9400BK Osborne AUTO Folding Knife

Benchmade

**As pictured except with black plain blade.

One of our favorite all-time designs is back and better than ever. With 20 years of life under its belt, the timeless design of the 940 takes a radical leap into the push-button automatic world. Intended to maintain the stylings and dimensions that made the original 940 an iconic EDC design, the 9400 Auto is as true to form as it gets, despite the addition of a push-button auto mechanism. It doesn't have to be tactical to be practical, and this knife screams practicality.

How to spot a Fake Benchmade 9400BK.
Imitating Benchmade knives is VERY common because the genuine brand knives are very expensive. The Chinese produce the best looking and are the most prevalent of the copies. It makes it worth their effort to copy this brand because they can sell close to the genuine knife price. There are noticeable differences between a genuine and a fake if you know what to look for.My knife DOES NOT exhibit any of the following known aspects common with a fake Benchmade knife. If you want to be a poser.......Buy a fake. If you want a REAL 9400........Buy it and be proud you bought a 'Made in USA' product.Differences on a 9400BK are:- The green handle anodizing is lighter in color and more reflective on the fake where the genuine Benchmade is darker (looks like British Racing Green), is non-reflective and has a slightly rougher surface texture.- The word ‘Benchmade’ (inside the company emblem on the left side of the blade) is inscribed, just below and parallel with, the top edge of the flat grind on the blade of the genuine Benchmade knife. The fake will have the word ‘Benchmade’ just above the grind line.- The blade centerline angles up more on the fake. When resting flat on the edges of the handle, the blade tip points up away from the table surface. The genuine Benchmade 9400 blade centerline and cutting edge are parallel to the table surface.- Handle mounting screws are different. The fakes have slightly flatter panhead screws.- The opening Push-Button is different. The fakes button head profile is slightly flatter and is shorter (not as tall) and is smaller in diameter. The button profile doesn’t rise up in height (similar to a tiered pyramid shape) like the genuine Benchmade button which is also larger in diameter than the fake.(Thumb Studs are similarly different on other Benchmade models that do have thumb studs.)- The blade grind curve stops short in front of the front bolster on the fake. It should extend back just slightly under the front bolster on a genuine Benchmade. Handle should extend over the grind curve.- The blade should have microscopic vertical grind lines in the primary flat grind on a genuine Benchmade. These are very faint but should be visible with a 10x loop. The fakes have a very smooth stonewashed finish.- The slide lock switch is slightly narrower and is longer on the genuine Benchmade. The rear gap between the slide lock switch and the handle is wider on the fake.- The genuine Benchmade black storage bag is thicker. The fake bag so thin you can see light through it when held up against a bright background light.- The collar surrounding the pivot screw is wider (larger) on the genuine Benchmade. The fake collar is smaller.- Blade hardness on the fake has been tested and known to be 43 HRC compared to 58-60 HRC of the genuine Benchmade.- The fake has a backspacer mounting screw that completely penetrates the clip-side scale using a ‘Pass-Through’ type mounting hole. The genuine Benchmade uses a ‘Blind’ mounting hole. - The backspacer is wider and is a deeper purple color (also known as Joker purple) on the genuine Benchmade versus thinner width and pinkish color spacer on the fake.- On satin finished knife blades…..The Benchmade blade emblem is darker (almost black) on genuine knives. Fakes have a washed-out (light contrasting) blade emblem that is almost gray in color.

Cons: Pocket Clip
My first Benchmade
•This is a lightweight medium length size EDC automatic opening folder knife which feels thin in the hand. It 's length just fills my hand. •Blade can only be opened by pressing the Push-Button.•Blade snaps open with authority. Crisp action.•I like that there is a blade locking slide switch on the spine to prevent accidental openings and closing. It serves to lock the blade when OPEN.I have not yet used this knife to cut anything. The clip is overly stiff and it not totally a Deep Carry type.Handle is nice and stiff. Very little flexing. Can see grind marks on the edge bevel. The edge was not very sharp or polished. Should have been for this price. This is my first Benchmade. I'm liking it so far.

Absolute beast after accidentally buying a replica 9400
I purchased unknowingly a fake Chinese 9400bk auto from another local shop. After bringing it home I just compared it to actual images of the genuine benchmade. Luckily I was able to return the fake to the other store and get the real deal from knife center. The fake was actually well made but worth 30$. This real one is in a league of its own.
