Right-handed hegemony, weak spring
I have other versions of the Sendy, and numerous slipjoint folders have crossed my palms.The idea of a Sendy with a slipjoint is fantastic. The fit and finish of this one are of the high quality we expect now from Civivi. The leather fob is well-tied and of good quality. Nice weight and thickness.That said, there was an opportunity — with no pocket clip to get in the way — to make this an ambidextrous knife. Civivi failed that test. With a fuller on both sides of the blade instead of just one, and a notch in both handle scales to access it instead of just one, this could have been a southpaw's paradise rather than a tool of the oppressive right-handed hegemony. And even right-handers could have simply pinched the blade to open it, rather than awkwardly trying to use the fuller as a nail nick.Furthermore, the backspring is a bit too weak for this knife; a little pressure on the thumb jimping causes the blade to start moving toward closed, and only the half-stop prevents it from actually closing on my fingers. A spring stiff enough to start closing only from the middle of the spine would be safer and still allow for one-handed closing if that's your thing.Finally, not terribly enthused about the clip point; this would have been better executed with the drop-point shape from the liner-lock Sendy (and the green micarta from the same place would have been even better).All in all, ok, but hard to want to carry this frequently when other slipjoints are southpaw-friendly and have a nice strong spring.
