CS16DT: 16DT 3V Trail Master

Cold Steel Knives

The broad clip point of the blade of the Trail Master is extremely resistant to bending or breaking. This is largely due to the fact that the tip is actually thicker near the point than what is seen on competitor's knives. This, however, does not mean that the point is dull or blunt. On the contrary, the point is almost needle sharp and offers tremendous penetration. Plus, the blade-back is equipped with a slightly concave false edge that measures approximately three and a half inches long. 

Every Trail Master's edge has been honed by hand, then given a high-speed buff until it is truly razor sharp and capable of easily shaving the hair off one's arm. This knife is so sharp it will cut at the slightest touch. The Trail Master balances approximately 3/4" in front of the guard for a slightly blade-heavy feel that is ideal for delivering heavy chopping and slashing strokes. The Trail Master's Kray-Ex handle is 5" long and deeply checkered for a non-slip, shock-absorbing grip. What's more, its contoured cross-section helps prevent the knife from shifting or turning in the hand when striking full power blows. The double guard is very sturdy and rigidly fixed into place. It is long enough to keep fingers off the blade, yet short enough to avoid being tangled in clothing or equipment when the Trail Master is drawn.

My apocalypse knife.
The 3V Trailmaster is a terrific choice to add to one's extreme kit. It's tough, large, and up to most major tasks. I did enhance the sheath by commissioning a Kydex, piggy-back sheath which further enhances it's capability. [Esee Izula in S35VN rides on top.] This compliments the chopping power of the large Trailmaster by giving me something more nimble and rust resistant. A great pairing! I'm very happy with this knife.

3V Trailmaster - the best Trailmaster yet?
I was skeptical about the 3V Trailmaster—whether it would be worth the money, if the fit and finish issues had been addressed, if the Taiwanese were doing a good job, etc., etc.So I ordered one. Knife Center has always been a great, reliable source with fair prices.The knife arrived in good time. I looked it over close…I looked it over hard, under magnification. The knife is nearly perfect. There is the slightest difference in the secondary bevel angle at the point, but not enough to make any difference in the function of the knife. It came with a very good edge. I stropped it and it will slice a lazy S in 20lb. printer paper.I haven’t used the knife to beat the crud out of it, but I have Trailmasters in SK5, O1, and San Mai III, and they all stand up great, so I believe the 3V will be the best of the bunch. I have quite a few Bark Rivers in 3V, and the heat treat is fairly well figured out by now. Enough manufacturers have used and are using 3V that it’s not a mystery, so I just ordered another 3V Trailmaster so I will have a spare. I would never want to be without one. I will compare the two when the other arrives and the better of the two will become the “reserve” and the other will come in for some serious use and abuse.In the realm of big knives, the Trailmaster is a classic. When it comes to a knife for self defense, the Trailmaster has the size, speed, and configuration for back cuts, etc.Hopefully, this will be the best Trailmaster of them all!
