Description

CS88CWS: Chinese War Sword

Cold Steel

Few swords are more intimidating or more effective than the two-handed Chinese War Sword. Its huge, wide blade will shear through armor as if it were butter, not to mention mere flesh and bones. There is nothing clumsy or awkward about this sword. Its 14" cord wrapped grip, "S" shaped guard, and steel ring pommel all work in concert to make it a well-balanced weapon that's unbelievably fast and agile. This sword is also available as a Man at Arms collection high-value Chinese War Sword (CS88CWSM), which can be found here.

A True Chinese Boxing Sword
I have practiced Chinese Martial Arts for most of my life. At a recent ceremony for advancement in the School I belong to, this sword was given to me by students as a gift of appreciation. I used it to do some ceremonial chopping and it more than held up to the task. The video's from Cold Steel show more, the sword is combat ready out of the box. What really got my interest was later I noticed the Chinese Writiing on the sheath.I showed it to my wife who, being Chinese, translated it as meaning, "Northwest 29".The Chinese Boxing School I learned from had deep connections to the Taiwan ChineseBoxing Schools that escaped from the Communist Army under Mao. These Groups were led by many of the rebels that fought in the beginning of the anti-japanese war starting in the Northwest region of China in the early 1930's. The special regimen that were the front line resistance were issued these swords to fight the invaders. Their regimen was designated the number 29. And they fought with such distinction against the japanese rifle/beyonets that the japanese issued special metal collars to try and reduce the damage from these swords. These groups formed into the Tongmenbei (sometimes called Hongmenwei, or Home and Way) They would help form the resistance that helped Sun Yat Sen take the formal government of China to Taiwan and the Communists took over the mainland.I was surprised and happy to learn the deeper historical value of this sword design and the group that made them famous. It became an even more special gift.

One Sword if you could only posses one sword
I bought my first Cold Steel Dadao over 20 years ago. What can I say about it? If I could only posses one sword in the world, I would choose a Cold Steel Dadao. They call it a Chinese War Sword, but a Chinese Dadao would be more accurate. I have a small collection of Chinese Dadaos including 2 Cold Steel Dadaos. While other dadaos in my collection may be more accurate depictions of its historical lines, I love my Cold Steel best. I started practicing with my Cold Steel several times a week, but soon substitute it with a less sharp version of dadao to prevent from accidentally slicing off my arms or something. The Cold Steel blade is so sharp and strong. I once was invited by a friend to test my Cold Steel on a wild boar he had hunted and hung up by its hind legs. With one clean swipe of the Cold Steel Dadao, I took off the head of the boar by the neck. He filmed this action and in slow motion replay, the head dropped directly off without moving the boar body at all. Many tests have shown a Cold Steel Dadao could easily out chop any of the Cold Steel Katana by far. Check out Cold Steel's cutting videos and you'll see why.If you are looking for a real blade for real battle, look no further than the Cold Steel Dadao. If you are looking for a blade for perfection looks of the handle or the sheath or to displace for your friends to ooh and ahh, then you are looking in the wrong place.

Cold Steel Chinese War Sword
Beautiful product (sword). However, the sheath is not nice designed to go along with the sword. Great price but a little heavy to handle.
