I originally got this dmt bench stone just to put a new edge on my new Ontario 18" machete (also GREAT!). I thought it would be wayyy too coarse for anything other than heavy use stuff like axes chisels etc.. This thing rocks!! it takes off a LOT of metal fast but its relatively smooth feeling, not bumpy and coarse like i had imagined. I can even use this stone for reprofiling my folders! Also you dont need ANY oil or water to use it!! You can just wipe the metal filings right off this stone with your hand, it doesnt get clogged up at all!I was also very suprised at how heavy it was, its very solid feeling, and it comes with 4 stick-on rubber feet to keep it from sliding around when you use it. Combine all that with a Lifetime Warranty and "Made in U.S.A." and you've got a very very nice, quality diamond bench stone... This is so nice, Im deffinitely buying the medium and fine grit DMT. stones too!The 1 thing I dont like about it is how thin it is, If you're used to sharpening on stones held up by a stand, its hard to get used to sharpening flat on the table although you can improvise a stand for it. I knew how thin it was before i bought it, so its still a 5-star item!!
