KS4020: 4020 Concierge Folding Knife

Kershaw Knives

Like its namesake, known for discreetly and efficiently taking care of tasks for hotel guests, the Kershaw Concierge will take care of all your pocketknife needs—discreetly and efficiently.

Designed by Dmitry Sinkevich, the Concierge has a clean, refined look. The modified drop point blade of 8Cr13MoV stainless steel opens with a flipper and Kershaw's manual KVT ball-bearing system, providing fast and easy one-handed opening. A custom pivot adds interest without detracting from the knife's clean lines.

Yet it's the handle that really takes this exciting knife out of the ordinary. Built of machined G10, it offers a substantial grip and fills even larger hands comfortably. Yet thanks to the crowned finish on the G10 scales, the Concierge still feels slim enough to be an easy everyday carry. For a secure grip, Kershaw added a black, glass-filled nylon backspacer with raised jimping.

Turn the knife over and you'll see Dmitry's unique inset pocket clip. The custom clip rests in a machined-out hollow in the handle—so that it's flush with the handle scale. This pocket clip treatment also contributes to the knife's slimmer feel and easy carry. The blade, liners, and hardware are titanium carbo-nitride coated for a sophisticated look—and is just one more reason why the Concierge will be at home no matter where your tasks may take you.

Features

  • Flipper - May be used with manual or assisted opening knives. Tee "flipper" is a protrusion on the back of the blade that the user can pull back on, or flip, in order to move the blade easily out of the handle.
  • Liner Lock - Locks the blade open during use; one side of the knife's steel “liner,” the steel plate to which the handle scales are attached, moves into position behind the blade to securely lock it open.
  • Manual - There is no mechanical assist, such as SpeedSafe, used to open the folding knife. It opens the classic, old-school way.

Pros: Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Overall Quality
Cons: Blade Sharpness, Lock Ease of Use
What a great value for a bunch of reasons....
This is an underappreciated knife. I bought 7 of the less expensive 8Cr13Mov one for 23 bucks for holiday gifts. Because I heard there might be some sharpness issues and lock stick, I opened each clampack (the recipients won't care) and checked them all out.Pros: - I love the KVT ball bearing opening - nice a snappy! I bet with a little WD40 to clean out the pivot from any metal dust they will be even better!- The handle is really, really comfortable- The blade shape is really useful for all sorts of tasks- really good value for the price. and for 47 bucks, the D2/Micarta variant is a steal too.Cons:- There was a little lock stick. I think that will disappear with some use.- Because I bought 7 of these, I could see there was a difference in factory edge - some were wicked and others just sharp. But anyway, one will have to sharpen 8Cr soon enough so I don't think that really matters. In the end, the is a super ergonomic user.

I can't believe this costs less than $30!
My example needed some edge truing & a good blowout with compressed air & some fresh KPL. I also tweaked the liner lock because my detent was too soft. After these minor adjustments this is now a really sweet knife! I expect some flaws at sub $30 prices but this is a real steal. This can compete with any $100+ CIVIVI knife (after tweaking). The steel is great for this price point. A great blade shape & an excellent all rounder EDC. This is a keeper!

Pros: Weight, Ease of Opening, Pocket Clip, Blade Sharpness
Cons: Lock Type
Almost 5 stars
Knife arrived promptly. Comfortable handle, clip holds knife securely, perfectly centered blade, arrived very sharp. Flipper action smooth but could be better. Lock up is poor. Liner lock only catches a very small sliver of the blade, and blade slips free with almost no pressure.
