LTWPRHO1CM03T: Pronghorn, O1, Twisted Natural Micarta

L.T. Wright Handcrafted Knives

The perfect whittling knife for bushcrafters young and old, the Pronghorn will feel like an old friend as soon as you pick it up. Feel like you are in a rocking chair or by the fireside while wood shavings accumulate around you

The straight-backed blade is just under 3 inches long for easy control and precision cutting. It is made with O1 tool steel, a classic choice for this style of knife, renowned for its toughness, ease of maintenance, and the ability to take a keen edge and it features a 90-degree spine for striking a firesteel. The Scandi grind is finished by hand to a razor's edge - perfect for bushcraft tasks like whittling wood, making notches for traps, and feathersticks for starting a fire.

The handle is just long enough for full grip and is comfortable for long sessions. The “Twist” applied to this version adds a little more grip without sacrificing the long term comfort. Finished by hand to remove any hotspots, they are secured to the tang with a combination of Loveless-style bolts and high-strength epoxy for a lifetime of durability.

The knife would not be complete without a good sheath, and the included JRE Industries leather sheath has good retention and classic good looks. Additional rivets allow versatile lashing options and the integral belt loop is wide enough for just about any belt size out there. It is made in the USA and backed by a lifetime guarantee.

Surpassingly fine woodcarving knife
The Pronghorn is my favorite pattern from L. T. Wright. I had owned two (sold one) before getting this model. I was intrigued by the ergos of the twisted handle, particularly as this is my woodcarving knife, and so it needs to be comfortable for hundreds of little cuts over hours. I'm tremendously impressed by the feel of the handle, though the handmade process means there is some difference in look from the stock image.I have several Sloyd knives, but I find I always use a Pronghorn for the early shaping stages of carving, when lots of material needs to be removed. This particular knife came with an almost mirror polish that exceeds even my other Pronghorn in smoothness of cutting. A good tool is a joy to use!

Small package, big love
I just got the knife today and to be such a compact smaller puukko, it took my breath a little, the blades micro edge that they put on with a 0 degree hand buff really leaves a stunning mirror edge on the scandi grind, which also has the effect of leaving the metal, razor sharp.i need to warm up to the twist handle a bit but feels good in hand. For the size it is it has a real heft, that’s rather reassuring. As the other reviews state for the regular micarta handled version, I waited a good while for this pronghorn, and so far I love it.
