Messermeister

The Messermeister 12" Ceramic Steel's combination of industrial strength ceramic and a honing or alignment steel creates one of the best preventative maintenance tools possible for your knife’s edge. This steel is very hard, 1200 grit, and it has a slight abrasive characteristic so it actually sharpens as it aligns the edge. The ergonomic, soft-grip handle provides a very secure grip.

Not what I expected of 1200 grit
It is a ceramic sharpening stick. It does sharpening blade steel. It is advertised as 1200 grit that "polishes" the edge. Even with the lightest possible strokes of the blade on the stick it will not achieve a polished/honed edge and abrasive scrat h marks are easily visible even with my failing eyesight. I'm very disappointed. Sadly I threw the box away or I would return it.

Pros: Overall Quality
Cons: Durability, Ease of Use
Broke In First Day
Mind you, I used it that morning to hone all the knives in my kitchen and it worked perfectly fine. Its smooth all the way around, so I wish there were ridged ditches in it to sharpener as well. I took all the knives to an oil whet stone to sharpen them first and the sharpener got black quick when I used it to hone. On top of that one of my cooks dropped it and it broke the first day. It is ceramic so it should have been handled better in the first place, but it still sucks I could even keep it in the kitchen

Messermeister ceramic sharpener
I was fortunate enough to use this same rod owned by a friend, prior to my purchase. It is extremely easy to use, light weight, easy to clean and extremely affordable. My friend purchased his sharpener from a different company and paid more that I did, buying it from Knife Center.
