NCNTP30: NTP30 Bolt Action Tactical Pen, Titanium

NITECORE

Equipped with the unique bidirectional bolt design, NTP30 is a multi-purposed tool which is able to pass the security screening, has the functionality for self-defense in a life-threatening situation, and can handle daily writing. Featuring a convenient and stable lockout, the slider in the unique bidirectional bolt mechanism can be skillfully maneuvered in the L-shape groove to select and retract either the pen refill or the tungsten steel tapered tip.

The body is CNC machined from TC4 titanium alloy, featuring lightweight, excellent impact and corrosion resistance, and skin-friendliness. The NTP30 is exquisite and portable with a weight of only 27g (0.95oz).

The hardness of the tungsten steel tapered tip is measured by the Rockwell scale (89-92.5HRA), which ranks only second to the hardness of diamond. The tapered tip can not only launch a powerful counter-strike to suppress assaulter effectively but break the window glass to enable a possible means of escape in case of emergency.

The high-quality German Schneider refill guarantees the ability to write anytime anywhere, even underwater, in extreme hot or cold weather, and in a shaking car or plane. The ergonomic design makes NTP30 exquisite and comfortable to hold. The anti-skid thread in the center increases the friction and avoid sliding.

The rigid titanium clip enables NTP30 to be easily clipped to your pocket, shirt, or backpack and avoids loosening and loss of the pen.

Pocket Clip is too tight
This pen is light, strong, great looking and the concealed tungsten glass breaker is a great feature. But the titanium pocket clip is so tight you can't slide a single sheet of paper under it much less hook it over the edge of a denim pocket. The actual contact point between the pocket clip and the body of the pen is very sharp and if you do manage to get a piece of pocket material under it you risk it being cut or torn when you remove the pen for use. I'm all for having a clip that will hold the pen firmly in my pocket so I don't lose this fairly expensive investment, but I'm not willing to risk cutting or tearing up my pockets in order to carry it.

It was perfect... until it was absolutely useless
Right after I bought this pen I carried it every day and used it regularly at work for about half a year. It's really well made, light weight and a lot of fun to use and play around with. However the bad omen started when I began to notice that the bolt handle had a tendency to unscrew itself - even with sensible use i.e. without fidgeting around with it. Well just last week it actually unscrewed itself completely (while clipped in my back pocket) and the bolt handle disappeared. Missing this bolt handle renders this expensive pen completely useless, so I can only give 3 stars maximum as a fatal flaw like this shouldn't exist at this price point. Of course I could have put some loctite on the threaded end but in my experience this shouldn't be necessary (my other bolt action pens don't need it either). So apart from this, the rest is pretty much perfect. Only nitpick would be that the pocket clip is very stiff.
