ON8883: RAT Model 1.5 - MagnaCut/Brown G10

Ontario Knives

Randall's Adventure Training has been designing, marketing, and selling survival and military-style knives since its first survival courses in the Amazon Jungle of Peru. One of their first designs was the RTAK, which was built by Newt Livesay's Wicked Knife Company before Ontario Knife Company produced the design. ESEE also produced and sold the RAT skinning/survival knife made by John Greco and the RAT Laser Strike knife made by TOPS (ESEE has since reintroduced the Laser Strike as an ESEE knife). Randall's Adventure Training also designed the following knives for Ontario Knife Company: RTAK II, TAK, RAT-7, RAT-5, RAT-3, Model 1 folder, and the Model 2 folder.

Equipped with sturdy brown G10 handles and an upgraded CPM-MagnaCut drop point blade, this quintessential folding knife excels at everyday tasks while remaining durable enough to handle even the toughest of tasks.

Cons: Handle Feel, Handle Material, Pocket Clip
Great knife for the price
This is one of the best knives you can buy under $100 without a doubt. Very solid, perfectly sized, and equipped with the most premium steel currently available. This has one of the best detents/actions of any knife running on washers period. My knife came as sharp as one can get, along with perfect lockup and centering. I gave this a 4/5 due to a few little nitpicks such as the unnecessary sharpness of the blade spine which could be chamfered down a little, the stiffness of the pocket clip which has to be bent back some or it is basically unusable, and for some reason all Ontario RAT models ship with the clip in the weirdest position possible so you always have to relocate it for traditional tip-up carry. I also am not a fan of the G10 handles but that would be with any knife. If Ontario made a titanium-scaled frame lock version of this knife, it would become unobtainable very quickly.

Solid edc
This is my first RAT and I think it’s great. I find it’s a low profile for pocket carry but feels solid in hand. The G10 handles have a good grip in general and definitely when making cuts. I would recommend this knife for daily use or to add to your rotation.

Quality + Magnacut for less than 100
Ontario Knife Co is among the best in the world and they delivered again with the RAT 1.5. Their Magnacut blade ranks among the hardest and for less than $100. The only change I would make is to remove a little handle material so I can get my thumb on the stud better. That's it.. a great knife perfect size for me.
