RCGIBSONAXE: Gibson Axe

ESEE Knives

The ESEE made in the USA Gibson Axe was designed by James Gibson as a small, compact axe that will easily fit in a backpack. Gibson's stated goal was a comfortable using tool that could do most camp chores, as well as being used as a carving axe. The Viking bearded head allows for close up work and the finger grooves/textured scales along with the swell on the end provides an excellent gripping surface when chopping. The 1095 high carbon steel frame is about as indestructible as you can get for an axe this size.

About the Designer

James Gibson is a native East Tennessean, born and raised around the Great Smoky Mountain area. With a passion and love for the outdoors, he has studied and practiced bushcraft skills most of his life. James is the co-host of the Clinch River Knap-in and has been a flintknapper for 22 years. He is also a knifemaker and obtained his Journeymen Smith Rating with the American Bladesmith Society (ABS) in 2003. My First Ever Axe!
I have never owned an axe/hatchet before. I bought this only to compliment the Gibson Nesmuks in my collection (of which I still own four, having given one as a gift!) Truth be told, I have never even used an axe or hatchet, but I have a grandson and granddaughter who are both outdoors persons who will inherit them, and use them! So to the Gibson Axe; it looks flawless to me in terms of quality; great blade material, great handle material, comfortable handles;but I cannot speak to design issues! I have no expertice!

Just Buy one
I use it as my camping axe or long range hunting axe if i have to camp out . I also believe this axe and my Esee jg5 are perfect companions for any long term situation in the woods .the handle is perfect , the steel is tough as nails and i wrapped mine with survival paracord on the shaft above the handle for extra comfort and just in case . This axe is light but still robust enough to get most jobs done for fire prep and structure building in the woods.are you kidding , knifecenter does an incredible job explaining products!
