Rockstead

Rockstead Knives are, in our opinion, some of the best knives available on the market. With Rockstead's meticulous craftsmanship and unique designs, this semi-custom folder is worth the premium price tag. The SHU-C-ZDP folder features a 3.25" ZDP-189, mirror-finish blade with blasted flats and lightweight titanium handles with apricot artwork engravings on both sides. The cutout in the handle scales provide good ergonomics while the finger choil allows you to choke up on the blade for more precise tasks. The incredible mirror finish is achieved by heat treating the blade and gradually hand grinding through 400, 600, 800, 1,200 and 2,000 grits wet-dry sandpaper. This is very intense and time-consuming because if any scratches were to occur during this process, the blade must be sent back to the previous step for refinishing. Once this is complete, the blade will be buffed for the final finish. The folks at Rockstead have mastered this process to give the knife a beautiful finish and sharp edge like no other. The included pocket clip can be attached for tip-up, right side carry. Each knife is individually numbered and includes a certificate of authenticity.

With proper maintenance, Rocksteads are known to keep a sharp edge for 2-3 years. Rockstead Knives come with free sharpening and regrinding. You would be responsible for shipping charges to and from Japan.

2017-2021
Since my first review, I’ve carried this knife frequently in a custom leather belt sheath. I also have the Rockstead Hizen and the Ivory micarta Kei. The Shu is the finest pocket knife in my collection, and is a daily EDC. The mirror polished finished is the same as new, and occasional stropping has kept it factory razor sharp. This is a user as well as a pleasure to carry. When in the office, the Hizen is my go to pocket knife, but the Shu is my centerpiece.

Unparalleled Cutting Edge
I use this knife as an EDC because of the weight to blade ratio. The entire knife is absolutely flawless in workmanship and the style of the SHU is about as traditional Japanese as one can get for a luxury folding knife. The most significant virtue of this knife is the blade design and its cutting edge. A convex grind with a mirror polish is visually stunning. The sharpness is extraordinary. I have never experienced such a razor edge on a folder, but the blade geometry and Rhc of 67 make it functional knife without the need to do more than stropping to maintain the edge. Methods and techniques are found on the Rockstead website for reference. This supreme quality knife is similar to having a three-inch samurai sword in the pocket. I cannot overemphasize how sharp this blade comes out of the box.

Anazing Quality And Blade
Yes, it's pricey but worth it. That blade is razor sharp. The button lock so easy to use. The handle is art. If you want a high end knife, you can't go wrong with this one.
