SOGTWI17: TWI17 Twitch II

SOG

Looking at the intricate construction of the Twitches reminds us of the workings in a fine chronograph watch; everything right and precisely in its place. These techno wizards feature a pass-through lockbar (patent pending) from which the "kick" of the blade sticks through. By pressing on the "kick", one is able to initiate the opening of the blade. S.A.T. SOG Assisted Technology then takes over to finish opening and to securely lock the blade open. What makes these space-age little gems even more beautiful is that they are also affordable!

Three Mods Away From Perfect
1. The finish is slippery, but easy to remove. 2.The safety is a bad idea, but easy to to remedy. One drop of super glue and you're good to go. 3.The knife needs an owner who can lube and adjust it to their preference. Out of the box it can disappoint, but tweek it and you have a great pocket flipper.

Wanted to love this knife
I put the Twitch II on my Christmas list and my daughter got it for me. Love the size, the look, the feel, etc. But functionally this knife has been really disappointing. Using the flipper the blade will not fully deploy. I tried adjusting, but it still sticks. I believe the primary reason is there is too much tension on the lockback mechanism, which puts too much pressure on the joint and keeps the blade from going to full lock. In addition, the pressure required to release the lockback is just annoying. Recently I noticed the assisted opening coil spring has started to click. That's a nitpick, but also annoying. Another nitpick is that the opening lock switch has lost stiction and now it slides back and forth, which is also annoying when you want to open the knife, but the lock has slid into place. I have a pretty large collection of knives from many different makers. Unfortunately this was my first SOG and it's a lemon. I know SOG has a good reputation so perhaps I'll shake it off and give them another try.

quality disappointing
My son gave me the Twitch 2 for Christmas. I was excited since i've never had a SOG knife before. When i flipped it open, it felt like the blade was loose and grainy. When i closed it, the blade never centered correctly. You could easily nudge the blade side to side while closed. If i tried to tighten the blade, it wouldn't even flip all the way open. I still use the knife but it was not a good first impression with SOG.
