SP152WDP: C152WDP Chaparral, Birdseye Maple Wood

Spyderco Knives

Since the release of the first model in 2011, Spyderco's Chaparral series has steadily redefined the form of the gentleman's pocketknife. Perhaps more accurately called a "prestige" folder (after all, its compact size makes it ideal for ladies as well), the Chaparral concept was inspired by a plant known for its ability to regenerate after harsh weather conditions and even wildfires. Mirroring that resilient spirit, the Chaparral series uses a single, highly refined design format to showcase a variety of distinctive handle materials and texture patterns.

The most recent addition to this elite family features genuine birdseye maple scales. Sometimes also spelled "bird's eye," this stunning material gets its name because the tiny knots in its grain pattern resemble small bird's eyes. Birdseye is not a specific species of maple, but rather a growth anomaly that typically affects hard maple (Acer saccharum). Scientists believe that unfavorable growing conditions cause the tree to attempt to start numerous new buds to get more sunlight. If the conditions don't support that growth, the new shoots are aborted and their legacy is a number of small knots in the grain structure. When the wood is sawn for use in things like knife scales, its dramatic grain structure is exposed to reveal stunning, one-of-a-kind patterns in every piece.

The Chaparral Birdseye Maple marries the spectacular look and traditional feel of this material with the proven functionality and ease of use of the Chaparral design platform. Like all members of the family, it features a full-flat-ground leaf-shaped blade with outstanding edge geometry for near-effortless cutting performance. Precision machined from Carpenter Technology's CTS XHP stainless steel, the satin-finished blade has a 50/50 index-finger choil and opposing thumb ramp—both with non-slip jimping—that allow a forward-positioned grip for extreme control. It also proudly includes Spyderco's signature Trademark Round Hole™, which is equally accessible from both sides to allow easy one-handed opening with either hand.

To support the knife's breathtaking scales and its sturdy back lock mechanism, its handle is built with full, skeletonized stainless steel liners and a stainless steel backspacer. Its screw-together construction ensures the precise alignment and tensioning of all parts, as well as the attachment of a reversible deep-pocket wire clip. Easily configurable for left or right-side, tip-up carry, the clip provides the perfect balance of discreet carry and quick access. It also complements the knife's symmetrical design to make every aspect of its carry and operation completely ambidextrous.

A proud addition to an elite Spyderco family, the Chaparral Birdseye Maple expresses this unique design with a distinctively traditional flavor.

Gift for my Father
I bought this knife for my Father for Father's Day 2021. He's in his late 50's and previously only had ever had lower end models of Case knives, and other inexpensive slip joints or lock backs. He's really enjoyed it and uses it frequently. The spider-hole opening style is very intuitive and the pocket clip is not intrusive. The very thin, slicey profile is a big plus too as he isn't practiced in sharpening his own knives.

Exceeds My Expectations
First Spyderco I've bought. It exceeded all my expectations. The wood handle is beautiful. It opens with a great sense of mechanical solidity. Fit and finish was perfect. I now see why so many people like Spyderco knives.

Love it. New favorite
I had been using pakka dragonfly and loved that little knife. This Chaparral is even better. Just a little bigger but fits my hand more comfortably. Excellent steel. Highly recommend it
